DC Studios has cast Superman and Supergirl, leaving us to wonder who's next. Lanterns appears to be taking shape, while Booster Gold is also said to be close to starting production (rumour has it the title character has secretly been cast).
While we strongly recommend taking the following with a pinch of salt given the source, Film Front claims to have learned who the three frontrunners are to play the DCU's Booster Gold.
Bigger stories than this have been broken by smaller outlets in the past, and that's why we're not completely dismissing the story!
According to the site, Dylan Playfair, Fionn Whitehead, and Patrick Schwarzenegger are all screen-testing for the role of Booster. It's unclear which of them has potentially been cast or even whether any of them are still in the running.
Playfair is best known for his work in Letterkenny and the Descendants franchise. Whitehead, meanwhile, has made a name for himself in Dunkirk, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, and Great Expectations.
As for Schwarzenegger, he's the son of screen icon Arnold Schwarzenegger and has established himself as a star in his own right courtesy of standout roles in The Terminal List and Gen V.
If these names are anything to go by, DC Studios is on the hunt for a younger Booster Gold. If there's no truth to this rumour, James Gunn will surely debunk it before the day is out.
The filmmaker has previously said the comedy series will explore "imposter syndrome as a superhero." DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran has described the character as "a loser from the future who uses basic future technology to come back to today" and pretends to be a superhero.
Booster Gold was created by writer Dan Jurgens and first appeared in Booster Gold #1 in 1986. His real name is Michael Jon Carter, a former football star from the 25th century who becomes a time-traveling hero.
Carter, disillusioned by his lack of success and fame in his own time, steals advanced technology, including a powered suit and a robotic sidekick named Skeets, and travels back to the 20th century to become a superhero. Initially motivated by fame and fortune, Booster Gold eventually matures into a genuine hero, using his abilities to protect the innocent and uphold justice.
Known for his witty personality, penchant for self-promotion, and often portrayed as a lovable, albeit flawed character, he's been a member of various superhero teams, including the Justice League.
As always, stay tuned for updates on Booster Gold as we have them.
