BOX OFFICE: CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER Passes $500 Million Worldwide

Far exceeding the total of 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger, Anthony and Joe Russo's critically acclaimed follow-up Captain America: The Winter Soldier has now passed $500 million worldwide. Hit the jump for further details on the latest hit for Marvel Studios!

While Sony are said to be hoping for an eventual $1 billion haul for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the comic book movie which is currently dominating theatres across the world is Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The sequel has today passed the $500 million mark at the worldwide box office with a grand total of $502.2 million. With over $167 million in North America and $335.2 million internationally, it's having no trouble beating 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger. That was far from a flop, but only a moderate success for Marvel Studios. These types of numbers however will make the Captain America franchise one of their biggest. The first instalment earned only $370 million in 2011, and there's still plenty of time for the sequel to earn an awful lot more! With over $80 million from China alone, the importance of that territory is also clear.

GO CAPPPPPP!!!, it was a great film, it is now my favorite MCU film so far,its betean the Avengers for me cause while the character interactions,humor and action etc are well done and great in Avengers,its a GOOD definiton of a summer blockbuster, it is thin on plot while this film has everything, the action is fantastic, the humor is well done, the performances are great, the story is very engaging and interesting, same as the characters, nitpciks:some of the wrework and cg looked off, and my only complaint is while the fury car chase was amazing, it dragged a bit for me in the middle, Hopefully Cap stays on top for the mon th of april and hopefully Guardians of the galaxy follows suit and gives a great movie that deserves it success aswell

This is my only question surrounding "Guardians of the Galaxy" Say I wanted to ave an MCU marathon leading up to Avengers 2? When exactly does GotG take place within the MCU? Is it as current as CA:TWS or is it supposed to be set before Avengers 3 or something??

@midnightking my feels were all over the place watching those two man...and poor Bucky. My heart just went out to him. I so can't wait for Cap 3 just for that storyline alone. It's going to be good.

My plan is to watch Guardians as a side film (after my marathon). If not that, then I'll watch it after the first Avengers, get it out of the way.

@DoubleD they have been silenced by the films greatness...So were do we stop here..700-800m? If this break a billion, and GoTG is great...could we see a 2B year for MCU...

@AlexanderLykins

Wow really??! I never knew that?!!

But seriously, most of these MCU films have given an idea when each of their films take place. Seeing how far they are in space will actually determine whether our time here would even compare to theirs. I'm sure the writers/directors didn't think about this but oh well.

Pretty amazing that a character called "CAPTAIN AMERICA" who dresses in an american flag costume has done so well internationally. I never thought they'd be able to get past the name. I guess Cap is kinda Springsteen's "BORN IN THE USA", mistaken for a "YAY 'MERICA" song until you actually listen to the lyrics. Not that we don't love you yanks ;)
