Marvel Studios Rumored To Have Some Unique Plans For Harrison Ford's Red Hulk In Future MCU Project

Harrison Ford will first play General "Thunderbolt" Ross in Captain America: New World Order, and a new rumor suggests his transformation into Red Hulk will make use of a popular comic book concept...

Following William Hurt's passing, Star Wars and Indiana Jones legend Harrison Ford will take over the role of General "Thunderbolt" Ross in 2024's Captain America: New World Order

Rumour has it the former Secretary of State is now United States President, a move that might not bode well for the Marvel Cinematic Universe's heroes given his disdain for The Avengers. While Ford has yet to be confirmed for Thunderbolts, the expectation is that he'll reprise the role there...potentially as Red Hulk.

If nothing else, we anticipate Ross "Hulking Out" in the next Captain America movie (especially with The Leader set to return) and, failing that, the long-rumoured World War Hulk project Marvel Studios is developing.

According to a rumour shared by r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers' moderators (which comes to them from "trusted sources"), there's concept art out there showing Ford's Red Hulk wearing attire similar to Marvel Comics' Joe Fixit. That was one of the many personas Bruce Banner took on as The Hulk, with this intelligent grey version of the hero serving as a Las Vegas enforcer.

Said to be for an upcoming movie, we have to believe this means Ross will transform into an intelligent Hulk, with the suit likely the one he wears as President.

How Marvel Studios plans to get the character to this point remains to be seen, but Red Hulk's MCU debut sounds like it could be one of the Multiverse Saga's most exciting story arcs.

It's also noted that, as previously reported, World War Hulk is moving forward as a movie, while The Incredible Hulk star Liv Tyler remains in talks to return as Betty Ross. If her dear old dad is now the President and a Hulk, we'd say a long-overdue reunion with Bruce makes perfect sense.

Captain America: New World Order is set to be released on May 3, 2024, while Thunderbolts follows on July 26, 2024.

I heard a rumor that Danny Devito is playing Galactus

@Feralwookiee - Oh come on, you can always go bigger. I quote Dr. Denis Leary: "During that Persian Gulf War, I was sitting in my living room, naked, with a can of Budweiser and a three inch stake watching the war, live, on TV. I had a six foot erection with a giant cheese burger on the end of it."

See Chanp? Don't sell yourself short. There's always room to "grow". *zinga*

Red Hulk as president? I don't really buy it.

Also, I'm still confused why they're moving on with Ross. MCU Ross has perfect reason to retire, and with Robert Maverick from the comics they have a perfect successor.

@bkmeijer1 - agreed, President Red Hulk seems like an odd move and they could've very easily made someone else the Red Hulk in the MCU

If you believe 80 years old Harrison Ford is going to play Red Hulk...LOL

@TheHumanSpider2 - I mean, it’s a CGI character, Harrison Ford doesn’t even have to do the mo cap. Why would they bring in such a big name to keep the character going if it wasn’t Red Hulk?

@Twenty23Three - exactly

Feralwookiee - 1/9/2023, 7:40 AM
@TheHumanSpider2 - Well, an 80 year old Harrison Ford is "playing" (i.e. hobbling around) Indiana Jones still, so why not play another character well past his prime, who will do all his "stunts" with cgi?

@TheHumanSpider2 - I think you're the only one who here who assumes this.

Not saying it's gonna happen, but his age doesn't really matter when the Red Hulk would be all CGI anyway.
antirock
antirock - 1/9/2023, 8:34 AM
@TheHumanSpider2 - yeah when Thunderbolts comes out he'll be 82/83 years old, even with the CGI nature of the character they still need him alive to do voice overs.

Ford is a titan but he isn't going to be around for too much longer.
UncleHarm1
UncleHarm1 - 1/9/2023, 8:51 AM
@Feralwookiee - Wasn't there an article about Harrison Ford injuring himself on set, so they are digitally replacing his face on a stunt man for most scenes? Even talking scenes if I remember correctly
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 1/9/2023, 9:54 AM
@Twenty23Three - Mokap and voice.
Do you see Ford (at 80) going through that?
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 1/9/2023, 9:56 AM
@antirock - I understand they needed a really big name to generate some hype over this movie, but Ford was just a terrible choice...why not Sam Elliot? he is old too, but most people agree he was the best part of the Ang Lee movie, and imo, he was a better Ross than William Hurt.
Humby
Humby - 1/9/2023, 10:30 AM
@TheHumanSpider2 - Agree for the most part, but I don't think they'd even continue to use Ross if they weren't planning on giving him at least one Red Hulk out. I'm guessing he stays human for CA:NWO , then turns into Red Hulk for the climax of Thunderbolts, and that will be the end of the character after those two flicks.

Any rumors of Ford being involved in more than those two movies, I just don't buy, at least until we hear anything more official.
TheHumanSpider2
TheHumanSpider2 - 1/9/2023, 11:02 AM
@Humby - I still have my serious doubts about him being in this movie (same with Ali as Blade).
Twenty23Three
Twenty23Three - 1/9/2023, 11:21 AM
@TheHumanSpider2 - he scans his face to be used whilst someone else does the Mo Cap and he records all his lines sitting in a chair… yeah I 100% see him doing that. So much so it’s probably the reason he signed on
Feralwookiee
Feralwookiee - 1/9/2023, 12:28 PM
@UncleHarm1 - I know they're digitally "deaging" him for a few scenes, but there's also this dreadful looking cut and paste shot from the upcoming character assassination...I mean movie.

@Feralwookiee - Trailers never have finished FX, they’re worked on until they’re finished or until they run out of time and absolutely have to deliver them. Every shot in that trailer will obviously look different by the time it’s released.

World War Hulk project Marvel Studios is developing. Hulk VS Sentry would be EPIC to see in a theater :)

bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 1/9/2023, 7:16 AM
@DoubleD - I know I said a couple of time before NWO might be World War Hulk in disguise, but I've come to the conclusion a solo project is better indeed.

It's probably not until 2027 at the earliest we'll see it, but I can wait.
DoubleD
DoubleD - 1/9/2023, 7:30 AM
@bkmeijer1 - New World Order is setting up for a World War Hulk movie too much needs to happen to turn NWO into a Hulk movie.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 1/9/2023, 7:50 AM
@DoubleD - yeah. Think that if follows a Hulk story, it more likely will adapt some stuff from Fall of the Hulks or World War Hulks.

But in the end, I don't care what is what. I just want savage Hulk again.
DoubleD
DoubleD - 1/9/2023, 8:54 AM
@bkmeijer1 - If you want a Savage Hulk, you're not going the like World War Hulk. World War Hulk he extremely smart and out thinks the greatest minds in the MCU.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 1/9/2023, 9:00 AM
@DoubleD - I'm mean moreso a Hulk that just goes punching the shit out of everyone again. Whether he very meticously plans how or just goes apeshit, I'm on board with either.
DoubleD
DoubleD - 1/9/2023, 9:45 AM
@bkmeijer1 - World War Hulk comics the Smart Hulk is closer in line with the Comics then the Savage Hulk that has no control just Smashes things.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 1/9/2023, 10:27 AM
@DoubleD - just get me a Hulk that is willing to not hold back anymore!
DoubleD

@bkmeijer1 - The Hulk is always holding back, or he would kill everyone.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 1/9/2023, 11:51 AM
@DoubleD - yeah, that's the Hulk I want. I guess
StSteven
StSteven - 1/9/2023, 5:45 PM
@DoubleD - Totally agree. I originally thought that "NWO" was going to be a Cap/WWH movie, but there's just too much going on in "NWO" with the Leader and such that I don't think that they're going to cram it all into one movie. And why should they? It's not like after 2026 the MCU will cease to exist so they have to get everything out that they want to do with these characters before then. Even if the next MCU saga is focused on the mutants (which it likely will be), Marvel will likely insert other side storylines as they have been so far, so a WWH storyline that spans a couple of movies and/or D+ shows seems fine. They're probably going to plant the seeds for that with "NWO" and maybe "Thunderbolts", but the more I think about it the more I think that "WWH" will be it's own thing. Especially if the DO end up having Ross become Red Hulk. That's something that needs to play out over several iterations, especially considering the history that Bruce and Ross have had in the MCU so far. Way more to go.
