With Captain America: Civil War now right around the corner, I'm sure there are many of you wondering how your favourite heroes fare in Marvel's first Phase 3 movie. We've already taken a spoiler-filled look at what did and didn't work in the release which is quite possibly the studio's best to date, but what you'll find here is a mini review of sorts for each of the heroes who make up #TeamCap.

With Earth's Mightiest Heroes split down the middle over the Sokovia Accords, sides being chosen were always an inevitability, but Captain America's group is an interesting and varied one, but which of them stands out as being the best? It's probably not who you're expecting! There are no spoilers for the movie below, but everyone's definition of a "spoiler" differs, so read on at your own risk...

6. Hawkeye

loading

Poor Jeremy Renner never seems to get much love. An afterthought in The Avengers and swiftly pushed from leading man status in the Bourne and Mission: Impossible franchises, I almost feel bad about putting him in last place here. Of course, seeing as every character in the movie is handled pretty well, that's not the end of the world!

The biggest issue with Hawkeye stems from the fact that he's perfectly fine in Captain America: Civil War, but seeing as it's a movie with so many memorable moments for the leads, Clint Barton doesn't really end up standing out from the crowd. He definitely gets some very cool moments (a scene with Tony Stark is in particular pretty memorable), but the archer ultimately doesn't make an impact anywhere near as significant as the rest of his #TeamCap allies.

5. Ant-Man

loading

Following Ant-Man, Scott Lang has quickly become one of my favourite characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and that's why I hate to admit that I found him a tad irritating in Captain America: Civil War! A source of humour, some of the hero's one liners fail to stick the landing, and it would have been nice to see him get a little more serious in this conflict (just like when he took on Yellowjacket in his solo outing last year).

His role is very much a glorified cameo anyway, but the Russo Brothers more than make up for that by having him play a key role in that airport battle, and trust me when I say that it's a sequence which will stick with you for a very long time. Overall then, Ant-Man's part is definitely memorable but not quite perfect.

4. Scarlet Witch

loading

Elizabeth Olsen can't hold that accent to save her life in Captain America: Civil War, but the actress is still terrific as the Scarlet Witch. The character's role is a much larger and more significant one than I think any of us expected, and the Russo Brothers do some really unique and interesting things with her powers in this movie.

In fact, I'm pretty sure everyone will come out of this first Phase 3 movie excited to see what's next for Wanda, and you have to hand it to Marvel for developing the hero and her story in such an interesting way in this ensemble piece. While it was a shame to lose Quicksilver in Avengers: Age of Ultron, this is the only Maximoff you'll be thinking about in this movie as Olsen takes her character on a journey it's hard to imagine her brother topping.

3. The Falcon

loading

The Falcon made for a great addition to Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but we never really got to see Sam Wilson in full on superhero mode. Captain America: Civil War thankfully rectifies that, and Anthony Mackie is on top form here. As Steve's closest ally, he's fiercely loyal to the leader of the New Avengers, and is also responsible for some of the movie's funniest moments (his chemistry with Sebastian Stan's Bucky is off the charts).

The addition of Redwing - albeit as a drone rather than an actual living, breathing bird - helps to make The Falcon an even more vital member of this team, while he's also part of one of the movie's coolest action scenes. I'm not going to reveal who is involved with that or when exactly it happens, but you'll definitely know it when you see it!

2. Captain America

loading

Despite the addition of Iron Man and pretty much every other Avenger ever, Captain America: Civil War is still a movie which belongs 100% to Chris Evans' Steve Rogers, despite the impressive ensemble cast.

The movie is structured in a way which will lead to you either deciding to support #TeamCap or #TeamIronMan, but Marvel has done a great job of making the character's beliefs both relateable and sometimes as extreme as his comic book counterpart's in Mark Millar and Steve McNiven's Civil War.

This adaptation delivers a very satisfying arc for the star spangled Avenger regardless, and Evans is on top form in the role, delivering great character moments and putting Bourne to shame with awesome action.

1. Bucky

loading

I'm sure you were expecting to see Captain America at #1, but Sebastian Stan does indeed steal the show in this movie.

Unfortunately, I have a feeling that the actor won't receive anywhere near the credit he deserves due to the fact that Bucky is surrounded by so many other flashier members of The Avengers, but the actor delivers a powerful and complex performance as The Winter Soldier, taking this character to some very interesting and unexpected places along the way.

As soon as Captain America: Civil War was announced, it became easy to imagine Bucky's story being pushed aside for the spotlight to be put on Iron Man, but fans of this hero will come out very happy indeed...

@Hawkeye47 - A Netflix series based on "My Life as a Weapon" would be fantastic, and would fit really well with the other Netflix series.

I LOVED Hawkeye in this film. I thought he was badass. Loved the Tony scene and he and Wanda have a good relationship

He does deserve his own tv series. Netflix. He NEEDS one

Black Widow is a spy And Hawkeye is an assassin. They need to transition the characters to Netflix. We would get a truer depiction of the characters there.
