Martin Freeman's CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Role Finally Revealed With New Still

There were many rumors and just as much speculation regarding who The Hobbit star will be playing in the MCU, but now it's been confirmed with a new look at the character and Agent 13

The first of many scoops from Empire’s cover story on Captain America: Civil War is in regards to mystery character that Martin Freeman will be playing. There were already rumors and speculation that The Hobbit star would be playing Everett Ross in the Marvel threequel, but now the magazine has confirmed it as well as revealed a new Civil War still image featuring the character alongside Emily VanCamp’s Agent 13 aka Sharon Carter. According to Empire, Ross will be a part of the Joint Counter Terrorist Centre in the movie.

Considering the character has ties to the Black Panther in the comics, we should expect Martin Freeman to join Chadwick Boseman to the African Prince’s solo movie in 2018. In fact, this was implied by the Marvel Studios president himself, Kevin Feige, at one point. Anyhow, check out the new Captain America: Civil War image that appears to take place in Germany, which co-director Joe Russo says will bring Cap “full circle” where it all began.

Directed by Anthony & Joe Russo and from a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely, Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability. With an all-star cast that includes Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Chadwick Boseman, Emily VanCamp, Daniel Brühl, Frank Grillo, with William Hurt, and Martin Freeman, Captain America: Civil War is scheduled for release on May 6, 2016.

Any relation to General Ross? Or is it just coincidence? I'm not familiar with this character so I thought I'd ask.

Wussup with Claw and Zemo? Been pretty low key these guys.

@NeoBaggins - I'm glad we haven't seen Zemo. I hope Marvel won't make the same mistake that DC did when they showed Doomsday.

@BodieBroadus - I didn't realize people thought seeing Zemo was the same as seeing Doomsday- or how exactly DC made a mistake by showing him in a trailer.

So, if they show Zemo in the next CW trailer, you're saying that's a mistake?

@NeoBaggins - Maybe not a mistake, but I believe it'll be better for the film to keep Zemo in the dark, for similar reasons to Doomsday.

1. They aren't the ones selling the film. You're going to see BvS for the titular heroes, and Civil War for the usual MCU people. There's no promotional gain in showing these guys in trailers.

2. It saves some good reveals for the movie. Even if we know said character will be in the film, it still would be great to actually see them visually for the first time in the theaters.

@NeoBaggins - I kind of get the feeling that Zemo is going to be using one of those face changers Black Widow used in Winter Soldier. I don't see Daniel Bruhl being a physical threat to very many of the Avengers (except like Falcon and Carter), so he'll hopefully be playing more of a Pierce role -- instigator of events. So in that respect it'd be a good idea to keep his role under wraps.

@BodieBroadus - When I mentioned Zemo, I was actually thinking more along the lines of BTS coverage or a sighting of him in a mag like this info on Freeman. I wasn't thinking of a trailer, but I wouldn't be surprised if he showed up in the next trailer, at the same time, if they withheld him for the movie for something awesome, that's cool too. I just thought hey, I haven't heard/seen anything about Zemo. I'm actually watching this film on netflix called Uncle John that the actor is playing in. Just realized it was him.

Far as Doomsday, I don't mind they showed him. I can't conclude that anything was revealed too soon in a trailer for a movie that's 2 and a half hours long. There just isn't enough info, so I take it like any other trailer; they showed what they wanted to show and we had a pretty good idea that he's be in the film. Maybe he mutates into a more comic-like Doomsday. That would be a nice surprise. And if he doesn't, and this current form wasn't shown until the film, and people have issues with his look, that might have been a bad surprised. So, they've eliminated that scenario if that's the case.

I'm glad their getting him out of the way early, and using him as a platform to showcase the Trinity in action. He's a grunt villain that isn't interesting enough to me to carry an entire film like Darksied, Brainiac, Black Manta, Ocean Master or even Metallo. He's the perfect character to use in this fashion.

@ISeeStupidPeople - That's possible. I'm interested to see him, that creepy Zola ghost in the machine and Claw- which probably doesn't have a part in CW.

@NeoBaggins - so basically, your questioning is same as mine: where the [frick] are the villains of this movie? i mean, Crossbones aside.

Man, all I know is that his role better not be as anticlimactic as Klaw's debut was. I get they're leading up to Black Panther, but do it cleverly and not just waste space. Klaw wouldn't have to be in AOU, Ultron could've just taken the vibranium without negotiations. That's how insignificant I felt Klaw was.
