During my daily catch up with the world of comic book movies I stumbled upon a video posted on comicbookmovie.com. To my delight the video was a Q&A stream where we heard a little more on the Cap 3 subject. Anthony and Joe Russo answered a few questions from the fans about their upcoming movie, Captain America: Civil War which lands here in the UK on April 29th. They stated that the theatrical cut was finished on Monday morning at 6am.

The brothers confirmed that 20 minutes of footage were shot using IMAX equipment and they were so happy with it that they will be using the same format for Infinity War parts 1 and 2.

A question asked by one fan went like this. “Describe in one word, the ending of Civil War” to which Joe Russo responded, “complicated”. That sounds about right to me. Civil War will be all about character motivations and their choices, which result in conflict so the theory that the movie will end on a sombre note holds water. At the end of the movie it is likely that the Avengers will go their separate ways eventually coming back together to defeat Thanos in Infinity War. Between Cap 3  and Infinity War we’ll get five new MCU movies including Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Spider-Man, Thor: Ragnarok and Black Panther so we'll get some new characters to add to the Avengers team. Given that the roster is pretty full already I think it is safe to assume we are going to lose one or two members in some way. There are plenty of theories.

Another enquiry read “Is the Bucky in this film going to resemble the Bucky from the first Avenger in any way or is he a completely different person”? Anthony Russo responded – “He isn’t Bucky Barnes from the 1st movie. He isn’t The Winter Soldier from the 2nd movie, he’s a completely different version of that character and perhaps he’s a hybrid between the two”. This makes sense, there is some heavy back story with Bucky and given that the character was brainwashed and used as an assassin by Hydra for so many years it will take time to break out of that world. Could the footage of The Winter Soldier in the trailers hint that he could go back to his old ways or has been brainwashed again? Whatever happens Anthony Russo went on to confirm that Bucky is a major character in Civil War.

So with only three weeks until UK release the marketing campaign is starting to ramp up, Joe Russo told us to look out for further streams from them. A trailer also dropped this morning titled The Past is Prelude which shows us early MCU scenes from Iron Man, 2008 and Captain America: The First Avenger, 2011 mixed with their interactions in Avengers, 2012, Age of Ultron, 2015 and the upcoming movie. The trailer is worth checking out even if you caught the MCU supercut. This one condenses the supercut and focuses on the relationship between Steve Rogers and Tony Stark and ends with the team’s facing off.

I simply cannot wait for this movie. The Russo's nailed it with the Winter Soldier and it is my favourite MCU movie. I love that they are shaking things up and introducing complex characters and story lines. The Winter Soldier was a “political thriller” and Civil War will be a pyscological thriller so the events in Civil War could shape the future of the MCU having a massive impact on the group.

Check out my Captain America fights fan trailer here. Iron Man fights will be published on April 17th.
