SPOILERS: CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR - 10 Rumors Which Ended Up Being Bullsh*t

Like most major blockbusters, we've spent the past couple of years reading all sorts of rumours about what's supposedly to come in Captain America: Civil War. While it's been easy enough to tell that many of those have been nonsense, a lot of them have been very believeable, but many of them didn't end up panning out. In fact, we now know that they were 100% bullsh*t! Some were fairly minor claims in the grand scheme of things, while others claimed to spoil the entire plot, but they were ALL wrong.

In fairness to the sites that broke these, things change behind the scenes and false information gets distributed all the time, so the intention here isn't to shame anyone for getting their facts wrong (even if some always felt blatantly false). Instead, it's to highlight just how much we've seen reported about Captain America: Ciivil War ended up being incorrect, and you may be surprised by the amount of rumours we've covered which were wrong and in some cases right, albeit in unexpected ways...

Some possible SPOILERS for Captain America: Civil War do indeed follow, so read on at your own risk.

10. Red Hulk

loading

Perhaps the most popular Captain America: Civil War rumour we've seen over the past couple of years, the prospect of the returning General Ross transforming into the Red Hulk is one which had everyone excited (even if it didn't make a whole lot of sense).

We never got to hear when and where this character would make his presence felt, but those of you expecting Ross to make a sudden transformation in a bid to take down #TeamCap will be sorely disappointed as this is never hinted at or referenced in any way. Honestly, it's hard to believe that the Russos ever gave this any sort of consideration, but it would still be pretty cool to see the Red Hulk on the big screen eventually.

9. Iron Spider

loading

The Iron Spider suit was first mentioned in those leaked "Sony Hack" emails, and with Kevin Feige later confirming that the wall-crawler would have more than just the one costume in Captain America: Civil War, it seemed like we would definitely get to see the young Peter Parker wearing a very different superhero suit (which would also help to differentiate this version of the character from previous ones).

Of course, this rumour was very much put in doubt after that big Spidey reveal at the end of the last trailer, but some still held out hope that the Iron Spider might appear. Well, while Tony Stark could give it to the hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming, there's no sign of it here!

8. The Movie Ends With A Funeral

loading

It's been said that Captain America: Civil War begins and ends with a funeral scene, but that's not the case. While there is one fairly early on in the movie, there are no character deaths significant enough to warrent another by the time the credits roll (which also debunks reports of multiple members of The Avengers being killed off in this movie).

This rumour seemingly links up with talk of Steve Rogers being killed - I'll get to that a little later - but there's simply no truth to it. We've known for a while thanks to set photos who that first funeral is being held for, but how some sites then got to the conclusion that there would be a second is hard to say as nothing points to that being the case.

7. Iron Man Creates Spider-Man's Webshooters

loading

One of the most controversial Captain America: Civil War rumours to date, the prospect of Iron Man being the one responsible for creating Peter Parker's web-shooters upset a lot of fans. After all, the youngster making those is a great way of showing what a resourceful and intelligent person he is, and having Tony Stark give them to him would turn the web-shooters (and web fluid) into just another of the billionaire's many impressive inventions.

Thankfully, Peter has already created both of those things when we meet him, something which actually impresses Stark (however, he's not quite as impressed by the hero's homemade costume, hence why he makes him a new one).

6. Multiple Endings

loading

According to one report, Marvel shot multiple endings for Captain America: Civil War featuring three different heroes suiting up to take the place of Steve Rogers. Those characters were Sebastian Stan's Bucky, Anthony Mackie's Falcon, and perhaps most confusingly, Emily VanCamp's Agent 13.

The reason three versions were filmed was said to be a combination of wanting to avoid spoilers leaking and the fact the studio hadn't decided which of this trio should take over. However while the movie certainly leaves the door open for a new Captain America, Steve's replacement (not that I think we're going to see one) is never actually named or even hinted at during Civil War

5. Bruce Banner Makes A Cameo Appearance

loading

It was actually Robert Downey Jr. who started this rumour, and while some sites would go on to claim that Mark Ruffalo had been spotted on the set of Captain America: Civil War in Germany, neither #TeamCap nor #TeamIronMan ends up utilising the Jade Giant as a secret weapon in this movie.

Funnily enough though, there is a scene in which we see a guy sitting at a table in an old run down house who looks like the spitting image of Bruce Banner from the back. It's not though, and is in fact just a soldier who Zemo wants to interrogate. Short of a second after-credits scene, it seems like we definitely won't see The Hulk again until the release of Thor: Ragnarok in 2017.

4. Iron Man Leaves Earth...

loading

Iron Man departing Earth for outer space has been a story we've seen reported on since before the release of Iron Man 3 (he was apparently going to end up as a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy), but it didn't happen there, and it certainly doesn't happen at the end of Captain America: Civil War as some sites claimed.

Said to be distraught over the death of Steve Rogers, Tony Stark would have left the planet, only to be called back into action in time for Avengers: Infinity War. Who knows, perhaps Marvel really did consider this at some point, but with Robert Downey Jr. confirmed to appear in Spider-Man: Homecoming next year, we know Iron Man will remain on Earth for now.

3. ...And So Does The Vision

loading

This particular rumour came from a pretty dubious source, but made for a fun read nonetheless. Apparently, The Vision was set to become so despondent with the human race and his fellow Avengers by the end of Captain America: Civil War that he would leave the planet.

While there, the android would apparently bump into Thanos and be destroyed by him when The Mad Titan took that Infinity Stone in his forehead for himself. As a result, The Avengers would head into outer space to take on the villain in Avengers: Infinity War, and as you're reading this, I'm guessing you think it sounds like bad fan-fic, right? Well, it was because nothing remotely like this happens here!

2. Return Of The Red Skull

loading

I'm not sure where exactly this rumour hails from, but there have been lots of reports about the Red Skull coming back in Captain America: Civil War to haunt Steve Rogers. The popular theory among fans has been that Daniel Bruhl is secretly playing the Nazi bad guy, while even Martin Freeman's Everett Ross has come under scrutiny at times.

Both of those characters end up being who they say they are though, and there's not so much as a mention of the Red Skull in this movie. It's a shame that Marvel are keeping the villain on the shelf, because there's still a lot of story which could be told with him despite the fact that Hugo Weaving has made it clear that he doesn't want to return.

1. The Death Of Captain America

loading

This rumour has been doing the rounds ever since Captain America: Civil War was first announced, and it's become such a popular theory for how the movie would end that it's ended up inspiring rumours about a rumour (which explains where those reports of multiple endings came from).

Specifics in regards to how Steve Rogers would meet his maker were never divulged, though Crossbones being responsible was something the majority of fans believed would be the case. Alas, Captain America makes it out of this first Phase 3 movie still breathing, albeit with a vastly altered status quo which definitely shakes things up as we begin the journey towards Avengers: Infinity War...

Which of these rumours are you most disappointed didn't come true? Have we missed any others which ended up being proved false? As always, be sure to let us know your thoughts in the usual place.
