@bullsize- if you've been fallowing these pics you'll see that his stunt double (you know, the guys who risks their health, safety.. and their lives.. to make these stunts look as authentic as possible) was wearing these ugly shoes as well. So im sure theres a reason other than him being a '5 yeah blondie' who fears of cold roads and rashes. Maybe he's making a stand against hippies by being barefoot in a sanitary way... or maybe he's wearing them to call out the tools who are willing to make a fuss about them. Or mayb he has got to consistantly run at full speed for these scenes and a small rock could [frick] up his day easily. Mull that one over before you go nagging about the guy who went from a size medium to probably an XL of all muscle and looks perfect for cap. And coming from me thats a big compliment because I hated the idea of him as cap.. he proved me wrong tho

they are foot and leg covers he cant run on bare foot on the cold road also they are to protect him for possible glass or nails that are on the road. if he run on the road and cut himself that will slow down the shooting schedule.

Ok seriously this has to stop. There have been some people who have already said but i guess people arnt getting the message so ill say it again - THE HOBBIT FEET ARE THERE TO PROTECT HIM FROM GLASS AND SHRAPNEL! Does that clear things up? Why are the feet so confusing to everyone? The scene must call for him to run BAREFOOT but obviously cant really do that because of the GLASS and SHRAPNEL. So the feet give the ILLUSION that hes barefoot while at the same time PROTECTING his feet. Does that clear things up?
