Marvel EIC Says Captain America “Will Have Everyone on Their Feet Cheering”

Now that Chris Evans has been cast as Steve Rogers/Captain America, we can all finally start getting excited about The First Avenger: Captain America in a very real way. That excitement, it seems, is quite palpable in the Marvel offices.

In a series of tweets earlier today, Marvel editor-in-chief Joe Quesada described the third day of a “super secret” trip to Los Angeles, during which he walked through the Captain America art department, saw the Captain America costume and met director Joe Johnston for the first time. He also seemed pretty stoked about a series of story meetings about “secret stuff.” Vague? Absolutely, but at least he admitted that he was giving his frothing-at-the-mouth fanboy followers absolutely nothing of substance. That didn’t stop us from geeking out and speculating.

“I suck, I know,” he wrote. “But think about how hard it is on my end to keep from bursting and telling you all the amazing stuff I’m seeing.”

He continued, “I soooo want to tell you about this thing that happens in the Cap movie that will have everyone on their feet cheering, but I can’t.”

Oh Quesada, you tease.

I had a dream that I worked for Marvel the other night. Devastated when I woke up.

But I really hope they deliver with Cap, cause, unlike Thor, I can't seem to visualize how the film will go. From the WW2 setting, to Cap's fighting style.

Hopefully Marvel will have some concept art to reveal at Comic-con this year.

Yes, Stan Lee has confirmed Evans as Cap. Jesus. There was only an entire article devoted to it.

@Phoenix LOL. Marvel really doesn't know what they do to us. I remember in the 9th grade, I actually had the dream before, and woke up still believing it. It wasn't until hitting the shower that I realized I had to go to school.

"is stan lee marvel"

Pretty much yeah. He's the founder of the f*cking comics for Christ's sake. I would think that he knows what's up when it comes to the casting of Captain America, Marvel's golden boy.

Evans has been listed as Cap everywhere, not just Variety. IGN, THR, Deadline, etc. Weaving was in the Variety article. Variety is a trusted Hollywood source.

Marvel isn't "announcing" it because they are probably still going through the very final stages of negotiation. As in, dotting the i's and crossing the t's.

People seem to forget that Hemsworth wasn't officially announced as Thor for a long ass time after he was said to be cast.

"why would marvel advertise on site when iron man and thor casts are mae, yet their golden boy cap has been cast"

Because both films are further along in development than Cap. Or because Marvel is waiting to announce the whole cast. Or because they are finalizing the deal, which yes there's a tiny chance Evans could back out, but that far in, I highly, HIGHLY doubt it.

Why can't people just accept that Evans has been cast? Not only has it been EVERYWHERE, but people who work for Marvel (Brubaker, Favs) and people who created Marvel (Stan) have confirmed it. You say why hasn't Marvel confirmed it? Well, why haven't they debunked it? This news is seriously EVERYWHERE, on basically every single site imaginable.

Yeah, perhaps Evans is in the final stages of negotiation, but come on, face it, he won't back out. That's grasping at thin straws which are being slowly pulled away further and further from your arm reach.

And dude, you act like the Stan Lee article was nothing but rumor LMAO. It was from his own twitter! That he personally wrote! Laughing that off as nothing is what I consider ignorant and lame. You're kind of overreacting at my comment a bit. I said that there was an article devoted to Stan Lee's comments on Evans as Cap. And yes, there was, but it wasn't something that was pulled out of the author's ass, it was the REAL DEAL. It wasn't a fake Stan Lee twitter account, that was HIS account. And he confirmed that Evans was Cap on HIS account.

Chris Evans is Captain America. If it weren't true, Marvel would have been dismissed it, instead of not commenting.

InTylerWeTrust - 3/25/2010, 9:22 PM
Dude, why are you getting so hostile? I wasn't remotely angry in any way in any of my comments. You seem to be taking them as personal insults.

No, Stan Lee is not entirely Marvel, but he is a gigantic part of it. He's a huge part of the development process for the movies, like it or not. When he CONFIRMS that Chris Evans has been cast as Cap, it seems pretty reliable. Do you HONESTLY think he'd be spouting that if he wasn't in the know?

Yes, it was an article on CBM. But articles on CBM have SOURCES! I never, NEVER said that whatever CBM says is "gospel" The article that I was speaking of had a SOURCE that led to STAN LEE CONFIRMING EVANS AS CAP. I would not have said "there's only an entire article devoted to it" if there wasn't a source. You're the one who can't seem to grasp simple logic.

No, Hemsworth wasn't officially confirmed by Marvel themselves for a while.

"even if he's 99% cap in negotiations, the answer is no"

Now that's getting into smartass technicality bullshit.

"and again..twitter...oohhh tis so accurate and gospel...i guess you study via wikipedia too right"

You're just being a douche now. I'm sorry, but I'm calling it like I see it. I NEVER SAID TWITTER WAS ACCURATE! F*CKING CHRIST! However, smilinstanlee, the one who CONFIRMS Evans is Cap, is Stan's official twitter. Not some bullshit fake account. It is a fact. Deal with it. If it wasn't actually confirmed to be Stan's account, I can see the comparison to wikipedia, but Stan's twitter, which he personally writes on, is not comparable on any level whatsoever to wikipedia.

"GUESS WE SHOULD ASK STAN FOR THE CURE FOR THIS ECON. RECESSION TOO HUH?'"

Completely irrelevant and pointless. Yeah, I'M the one with the BS responses. Please.

"your logic is so pathetic in this debate, it is really funny brah"

And so is your unprovoked hostility.

"but u attempted a smart ass answer to my first comment"

No, I was stating the fact that Stan Lee, the mastermind behind almost every Marvel character we know today, and the man who logically is very in the loop at Marvel, confirmed that Evans had been cast as Cap. No smartassness intended. Or shown.

"ANIL: DID MARVEL CONFIRM EVANS AS CAP?"

No. Stan Lee did. I said from the beginning that Stan Lee confirmed it. I didn't say "Marvel Studios confirmed it". I consider him to be a very reliable source for the films. I don't know how anyone can't. Stan's word is as good as Marvel's IMO.

"ANIL: IS EVANS CAPTAIN AMERICA OFFICIALLY? (the point im trying to make)"

Pretty much. With EVERY site on the face of the Earth confirming it, along with guys over at Marvel (Favs, Brubaker, Stan) confirming it.

My entire point from the beginning was that Stan confirmed it. His word is just as good as someone like Feige IMO. And Stan did confirm it. That's a cold, hard fact. I don't understand how he can't be taken seriously as a reliable source of info.

"apparently the chris pine quip irked u huh"

What Chris Pine quip?

InTylerWeTrust - 3/25/2010, 9:52 PM
I haven't changed my tune. My point still stands that Stan confirmed Evans. And I consider Stan's word to be just as good as Marvel's, which is why I said what I said in my first comment, which was what again? That Stan confirmed Evans. I consider Stan's word to be Marvel's word. Honestly, it's a matter of opinion actually, opinion on how much of Stan's word should be trusted. I feel that he should be trusted just as much as Feige would, you obviously don't.

I imagine that there aren't tweets about Weaving because the Red Skull casting isn't nearly as significant as the Cap casting.

@Guys at Marvel. If you're reading this, and I KNOW you are, do you see the kind of things you cause by taking so long to release things. Just like how the folks (including me) over at the SHH forums, was going crazy waiting for the IM2 trailer. So do us all a favor, and just confirm this thing, so we all can move on.
If you're still in the process of getting Evans, tell us, or better yet let CBM.com reveal it, and stop all this madness.

Thanks and have a nice day, Marvel_Freshman

@Everybody else. Just wait!! If they don't go with Evans then they don't go with Evans. Until then, Evans is Cap.

How he will fight should be like how Tim Roth fought in the best part of TIH.

But this time when Evans jumps over Nazi's and shoots them in the face they should be dead :)

Cap should fight the exact same way Emil Blonskey did when he was fighting the Hulk in IH. doing carwheels and flips. thats how i imagine it anyway.

@ anil

come on man, i like you, don't start this debate again. every news outlet is saying Evans is Cap. G4 announced it last night on national television as well.

when will people get over it and realize that Evans is Cap?
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 3/26/2010, 7:17 AM
"umm marvel's greater objective is to debunk rather than confirm?"

yeah, if someone is said to be Cap, it would be much better for them to NOT comment, IF he's really Cap. because if its true, what does it matter if they confirm it now or later? he's Cap no matter what.

But if someone is said to be Cap, when they really aren't, it COULD hurt their movie. if people think the wrong person is playing him, then it might turn people off. look what happened with Krazinski. he was said to have the role, and within 24 hours it was debunked because it pissed everyone off.

so yeah, the fact that this hasn't been debunked, even though its being reported by a LOT of news sources, AND on television. AND Stan Lee AND favreau both commented on it, its safe to say that Evans is Cap, lol.

@P862010

I think it would be wise to make his fighting style like Bourne. After all, Cap' is a top secret operative.

TO ALL:

Do you think they should give Cap' a sidearm for this movie?? I definitely think so. Part of bringing him to the silverscreen is adaptation and I don't care how kick-ass he is, most people are not going to buy a guy in red, white and blue in the middle of a WW2 Battle Field without a firearm.
CorndogBurglar
CorndogBurglar - 3/26/2010, 9:07 AM
@ wingpow

yeah! he should definately have a gun during the WWII. not when he's in modern times with the avengers, but in WWII? for sure! and thats not too crazy a change either. in Ultimates, he uses a Tommy Gun in the WWII scenes, and these movies are definately taking elements from both the regular MU and Ultimate universe. so it wouldn't be that crazy at all man :)

i don't see why not, it wouldn't be because its too violent, people get shot in PG-13 movies all the time. its just whether or not they want the HERO/Captain America to be shooting people.
