Marvel Studios President Comments On The Tone Of Captain America: The First Avenger

Learn what Kevin Feige has to say about Marvel's cinematic universe tie-ins and the tone Chris Evans' portrayal of Cap. Is this a subtle diss to Green Lantern?

On the presence of tie-ins to the larger Marvel cinematic universe:

"This is where it all starts," said Feige."There are a number of things that were retconned over the years, like Howard Stark's participation around that same program that they did in the [comic] books, decades later, so it was almost laid out for us. We've tied in Skull's MacGuffin and given it a cosmic, so to speak, origin, that you don't necessarily learn in this film, but again most of that is right out of the [comic] books."

On the tone of Chris Evans' Captain America:
"I wouldn't say [the script] is overly earnest…or overly jokey," Feige added. "There [are] some humorous moments in there, but this isn't Chris Evans being Mister One-Line. The script has humorous moments [and] has fun where appropriate."

Glad to hear it as Cap really isn't the type of character to make jokes. Only 15 more days guys!!!

"Captain America: The First Avenger" will focus on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America. As Captain America, Rogers joins forces with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) to wage war on the evil HYDRA organization, led by the villainous Red Skull (Hugo Weaving).

Wow u guys never miss a chance to crap on GL, even when its not there.
All he said was he wont be a funny man in the movie since Chris Evans often plays those kind of guys in his films. sheez already.

Ironically, Evans was known for his earlier work in comedy films. Now as Cap, he has to maintain the Steve Rogers effect, which will be cool to see. Its funny to see that he went from "Not Another Teen Movie" to this. Good on ya, Chris.

BTW, does anyone know how to upload images onto this site?

My issue is not if GL was crap or not, which it wasent, its that there is absolutely NOTHING there where he could possibly hint in a round about way that hes talking about GL.
Again all Feige said was that Cap has its light hearted moments but Evans will not be playing a funny man. Thats it. How in the world do u guys get a GL refrence out of that?

Chris Evans has played more serious roles than funny ones.

can't knock him for taking the piss out of the green lantern,it looked promising from the trailer but the film was nowhere near the quality of marvel films.

This movie looks like its gonna be the best Marvel film this year. Maybe even give Iron man a run for its money. I think Evans is an awesome actor. He ruled Scott Pilgrim and he was only in it for 5 minutes.

Hey Marvelites... Didn't transformers make money in 5 days than Thor did in 2 months...? Think about that next time you try to claim CBM dominance... lol

yes it did,but i don't class transformers as comic book movie.

thor, captain america,x-men & green lantern all started out as comic books.

transformers started life as a cartoon to sell toys, but alot of the users say its a cbm.

Man you guys read into shit way too much. There is no underlying diss on green lantern, he's simply saying that Chris Evans, who is mostly known for his snarky comedic type characters will be playing it straight for the most part, altho some humor is thrown in there. Get a [frick]ing grip, not everything is a Marvel/DC pissing match. I don't really see why there's such rabid loyalty to one or the other. Both universes have great iconic characters, and shitty, embarrassing, cringe worthy characters. Your wasting your time debating which one is better, just like I've wasted my time commenting. Damn you comment boards!

@ moondogx

hasbro created the toys & asked an animation studio to create a cartoon to help sell the toys.

marvel got the rights to produce a comic after the toys & the cartoon were a massive hit.

this would of all happened within the same year 1984.

He may or may not been refering to GL. I can see him wanting to distance themselves from being anything like GL though given its lackluster box office performance. I found GL entaining but it could have been better.
