Robert Redford Spoils CAPTAIN AMERICA 2 Role Detail; Anthony Mackie’s ‘Falcon’ In 60% of Movie

Recent comments from Robert Redford has the Captain America: The Winter Soldier actor possibly spoil an aspect of his character, while Anthony Mackie declares The Falcon’s very involved in the movie!

Speaking with The Times-Picayune recently, Pain and Gain actor Anthony Mackie discussed more about his role as Sam Wilson, aka The Falcon, in Captain America: The Winter Soldier movie. Although Marvel’s plot synopsis failed to include the character, Mackie assured that, “Sam's very involved. I'm in about 60 percent of the movie,” he said. “Captain America, the Black Widow and The Falcon take down the Winter Solider together, and they solve the crime at hand and take down the Winter Soldier. So this movie, if you look at the cast, with everybody in (the fictional crime-fighting group) S.H.I.E.L.D. and (co-stars Robert) Redford and Sam Jackson and everybody who's in the movie, it's kind of turning into 'The Avengers Part 2' because the cast is so big.”

Meanwhile, Here Be Geeks has quoted thespian Robert Redford as he was speaking with The Straits Times and offered an interesting, and possibly spoilerific, tidbit about his role in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The veteran actor is playing Alexander Pierce, the Head of S.H.I.E.L.D., in the Anthony & Joe-directed film. However, Redford explained that, “I think a career requires a certain amount of reinvention. If you get caught in one track I think that can be dangerous. Success has a dark side to it. you want to be careful if you’ve had success at something, that you not try and follow it by just duplicating it. That’s why I’m doing this Captain America thing. I like the idea of playing a villain…I did that just because it’s a different thing for me to do.”.

This quote could have been taken out of context, but considering Robert Redford's high-caliber status, his character's “sleeper Agent” history, and Marvel producer Kevin Feige's recent comments about Steve Rogers being “uncomfortable with the way S.H.I.E.L.D. operates” in the film, Alexander Pierce turning out to be a villain isn't too hard to believe. Here Be Geeks goes on to speculate that “Alexander Pierce” is a faulty name, and that Redford is actually playing Soviet military General Aleksander Lukin, who played a major part in The Winter Soldier comic book arc. What do you think?

“Captain America: The Winter Soldier” picks up where “Marvel’s The Avengers” left off, as Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world and teams up with Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, to battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C. Starring Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, Frank Grillo, Georges St-Pierre, Hayley Atwell, Toby Jones, Emily VanCamp and Maximiliano Hernández with Samuel L. Jackson and Robert Redford, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is directed by the team of Anthony and Joe Russo from a screenplay written by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely and is based on the ever-popular Marvel comic book series, first published in 1941. Marvel Studios’ President Kevin Feige is producing the film. Executive producers on the project include Alan Fine, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee. The creative production team on the film includes director of photography Trent Opaloch, production designer Peter Wenham, editors Jeffrey Ford, A.C.E. and Mary Jo Markey, A.C.E. and three time Oscar®-nominated costume designer Judianna Makovsky. “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” is set for release on April 4, 2014. If Marvel is pissed about this how do you tell Robert Redford?? He's one of the most iconic film actors alive.

Good luck with that one, Marvel. Ya'll may need the Avengers to handle that...but first ya gotta pay 'em more money. (See what I did there?)

It would be cool if he is actually Lukin.

And in the end he rips off his face and shows that he is actually Red Skull. What a twist. :D

No its better he stays as Lukin (If he actually even is that character).

Baron Zemo would be cool but i dont mind if he doesnt show up.

Lukin, Winter Soldier, Crossbones, Batroc and Arnim Zola. There would be enough challenge in those villains.

If Redford is actually Lukin i hope he dyes his hair black and grows goatee for the role.

Nazi in disguise. Bring on the Masters of Evil. HYDRA/AIM vs The Avengers.... or SHIELD/World Security Council seeing that their super group really isn't theirs to control make their own "Avengers" Winter Soldier, Cross Bones, Abomination and it turns out Redford played SHIELD and the Council cause he is working for Zemo or Skull.

If he is just Sleeper Agent Pierce. The Main villain he is working for should be Zemo who now leads Hydra.

so i'm guessing that he'll be working for someone else, zemo perhaps and has infiltrated shield over the years and eventually reached a high ranking position, and is part of the reason why cap turns against shield after relieving nick fury of his duties

CA:TFA was one of my favorite Phase 1 films and I've been liking everything I've been hearing about TWS so far. Glad Mackie seems to be getting a lot of screen love in this film, I was a bit concerned he might be under-used.
