New International Promos For THE MARVELS Shines The Spotlight On Park Seo-joon's Prince Yan

Park Seo-joon's heroic Prince Yan is the focus of new international promos for The Marvels, which appear to have originated from South Korea.

New promo material for The Marvels has surfaced online ahead of the film's November 10, 2023 domestic release date. The footage appears to originate from South Korea and rightly focuses on Park Seo-joon's Prince Yan.  The Marvels opens in South Korea on November 8, 2023.

If you're unfamiliar with Seo-joon, he is arguably South Korea's most famous actor.  North American audiences likely recognize him from the K-drama,  Itaewon Class, which is a popular title on Netflix.

In the promo below, Brie Larson calls Park Seo-joon, "maybe the most famous person I've ever worked with in my life."

Recently, early projections for the film have the Captain Marvel sequel slated for a $55-$75 million domestic opening, well below the opening weekend gross of the first film. Some projections even have the film grossing as low as $45 million domestically, in its first weekend.

The first Captain Marvel film grossed $154 million in North America and $455 million worldwide in 2019. While domestic tracking for the sequel is thought to be low, international projections are much higher.

As demonstrated by the above promotional material, The Marvels will need to rely on international box office sales to cover its $220-$250 million production budget, and Marvel Studios is certainly aware of this.

In other recent news related to The Marvels, Variety recently published a controversial piece that stated that the sequel had middling reviews during its test screening and that director  Nia DaCosta had abandoned the project to go work on her next feature film.  However, much of that report has come under fire from other news outlets, an unusual outcome for a Hollywood trade as reliable as Variety.

The Marvels will star Brie Larson (Short Term 12, Fast X) as Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel, Teyonah Parris (The Photograph, Candyman) as Monica Rambeau/Photon, Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel, Zawe Ashton (Not Safe For Work, Nocturnal Animals) as Dar-Benn.

Also appearing in supporting roles are Gary Lewis (His Dark Materials, The Bay), Park Seo-joon (Itaewon Class, Concrete Utopia), and Samuel L. Jackson (Secret Invasion).

Teaming up changes everything everyone.

Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan, Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team-up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as ‘The Marvels.'

They really need a hit right now, although there's also like 50 total tickets sold at my usual theater for the whole opening weekend. Normally a Marvel movie is totally sold out, I remember having to buy tickets immediately or they'll be gone within minutes. It's crazy lol

This shit’s gonna bomb till kingdom come. They’re not even releasing reviews until the day before release, so I’d be shocked at anything over 50% on RT

At least that promo pic doesn't show that evil white chick they shoehorned into her own movie.

Isn’t this subplot angering some folks because it makes Danvers straight?

@mountainman - I thought she was straight in Endgame because of how she was with Rhodes but I may have read that hologram bit wrong.

@marvel72 - Aladna's women used to choose their mates, while men had no freedom of choice.
How "progressive". 🤣

Also, according to the leaks on Reddit, Carol is worshipped by people on Aladna, making her literally a white savior.

Big if true and sounds like total dogshit.

And you wonder why Marvel Studios is losing steam. "WHO"!? Who the "fukc" is Aladna (assuming you spelled their name correctly)? Who are these no-name lame-ass characters?! It was bad enough The d-list Avengers made a billion, but now this? Now we've scratched the bottom of the barrel to this? Every single character they use is some lame-ass you never heard of.

Prince Yan. Who or what the fukc is that? Echo. Yan. Agatha. Who the fukc are these people? This is what Kevin is prioritizing. Not the X-Men. Not Doom. "Yan"

You get my point though right?

Who fukcing cares? The thing that angers me is Kevin Feige, aka Marvel (Studios), cares less about it than the people he's making these movies for! That's your God damn problem.

"Maybe but South Park may have opened a few doors for critics not being afraid to slag off Marvel now." - @marvel72

@marvel72. Seriously? If a fukcing cartoon made you more comfortable to criticize something, as a PROFESSIONAL, ADULT, CRITIC, then something is seriously wrong.

I can't believe you said that shit with a straight face.

@videovac - You dick, I am always calling out Marvel, you must new around here.

I'm on about professional critics, you know the ones Disney bribe to give their movies good reviews, so they can get all those screenings and free goody bags.

Also you think about all of the stories that have dropped since that South Park episode this week.

My prediction:

Domestic opening $50 million or lower.
Final domestic around $100 million.

International will be a little higher, but this will fall hard in weekend 2 agsinst Panem zero.

Scarilian - 11/4/2023, 7:32 PM
@MarvelZombie616 -

Domestic opening weekend is predicted currently at between $41m to $55m.

Domestic Opening weekend: $39m (Morbius) and $55m (The Flash)
Domestic Total: $74m (Morbius) and $108m (The Flash)
International Total between: $88m Morbius and $158m (The Flash)

As such I expect Captain Marvel 2 to have a total worldwide box office between $162m (Morbius) and $266m (The Flash)

If it gets an insane push from international audiences it may bring in around $250m international like Ant-Man 3, however that would still top the film at around $358m ($250m International + $108m Domestic). Realistically it should bring in a max of half that much given the domestic is halved.
Scarilian
Scarilian - 11/4/2023, 7:43 PM
Update:
The preview figures have been revised down and are now $6m as opposed to $7m.

Morbius had previews of $5.7m
The Flash had previews of $9.7m

We are very likely looking at a Morbius 2 here.
