In a new interview, Anthony Mackie has suggested that he'll start shooting Captain America 4 quite a bit sooner than we expected, but is he actually talking about Paramount+'s Twisted Metal?

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier ended with Sam Wilson finally wielding the shield and becoming the Marvel Cinematic Universe's new Captain America. We haven't seen the star-spangled hero since, but it wasn't long after the Disney+ series ended that we heard about Marvel Studios' plans for Captain America 4.

Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson are penning the screenplay for the movie, and cameras might begin rolling sooner than we anticipated.

During a recent interview, Mackie was asked for an update on the project, and suggested that he's set to report for duty imminently. "No, I haven’t started filming yet, I start in a few weeks," the actor says in the video below. "[I’m eating] a lot of vegetables and chicken breast. [Laughs]"

We should point out that there has been some confusion surrounding this interview, as we never hear the journalist ask about Captain America 4. Mackie also goes on to say he starts shooting Twisted Metal soon, leaving many wondering if that's the project he's actually referring to here. The Tweet does specifically mention his MCU role, however.

We've heard nothing about who will direct Captain America 4, and it's possible Mackie is referring to costume tests or even a stinger that will be added to another MCU project. Hopefully, we get some clarification soon.

Keep checking back here for the latest on the next Captain America movie!

Weird he would start filming without a director in place, or at least officially announced

@WakandaTech - honestly, I don't think you're far off. This is my expectation:

2024
Deadpool 3
Captain America 4
Fantastic Four
Spider-Man 4

2025
Shang-Chi 2
Avengers 5
Nova
Doctor Strange 3

2026
Black Panther 3
Mutants
Marvels 2
Spider-Man 5

For some reason Fantastic Four feels like a july movie like Ant-Man or Spider-Man, even when I think Spider-Man is now gonna stick to those december release dates.

Is there even a director?

I'd love to see Chris Evans direct it, it would be an appropriate way to give that feeling Steve is watching over Sam with Evans actually involved and I think it would come off as a "Good Faith" move.

This is for Twisted Metal not Cap 4.

I feel the same way about Cap 4 as I did reading the comics anytime it wasn't Steve behind the mask. I'm not into it. It's just not Captain America without Steve.

Whenever, in the comics, another character had the mantle the exciting thing for me was always seeing how/why Steve takes it back. Knowing that won't happen this time is sort of sad.

But the MCU must march on. Face front true believers. I'll find another character to be all about. Silver Surfer when?

@TheManWithoutFear - Steve will be back, you don't just erase 80 years of popular culture just like that.

@TheManWithoutFear - Isn't that the premise of various heroes taking up existing mantles though? As a recent example with Elektra. She became Daredevil temporarily to cover for Matt while he was in prison and even acknowledged that she could never be the Daredevil that Matt is. Same goes for Miles Morales who always feels he will never be up to par with the legacy Peter Parker built. Even when Duck Grayson took over for Batman his lack of confidence in himself kept holding him back. The point of these characters is just that. That they will never and could never be what the original was or is.
