CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Writers Reveal The Version Of The Movie That Didn't Include Spider-Man

Had Marvel Studios' deal with Sony not become a reality, we wouldn't have seen Spider-Man in the MCU. Now, the writers of Captain America: Civil War reveal what no wall-crawler would've meant for the film.

Captain America: Civil War brought Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe but his inclusion was very much last-minute and had Sony not agreed to Marvel's terms, that would have been that and the Sinister Six movie probably would have happened. Now, writers Christopher Marcus and Stephen McFeely would have revealed how the movie would have changed without the hero and it seems Ant-Man would have ended up #TeamIronMan.

"He would recruit somebody else," McFeely says. "He probably recruits Ant Man would be that idea. We had a section where you could recruit somebody." The scene was written too as Marcus explains: "We actually went to San Francisco, got him. It would not have been as cool."

McFeely then confirmed that it wouldn't have been anywhere near as spectacular as seeing Spider-Man, as he adds: "I believe he was watching his daughter play soccer. It wasn’t very good." Honestly, had we not known about Spider-Man, that would have been fine but now it just sounds like a crushing disappointment! What do you guys think? Share your thoughts below!

Spider-Man had 0 effect on the events in Civil War. It would be the same movie with or without him story wise. Civil War, however, greatly affected how Homecoming played out.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - Couldn't agree more.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - well ant man likely would not have been taken down, which led to war machine chasing the quinjet... which led to vision handicapping Rhodes.
So spiderman caused war machine to fall out the sky lol

Heh, knew the Russos were bullshitting us with all that talk of not having a plan B in case the Sony deal didn't work out. :P

@Doomsday8888 - haha I'd guess a producer was in the room with the russo / markus mcfeely team when they first said "we don't want a backup plan"

*Russos leave room*

Producer: Now you don't ever have to tell them, but you're going to write a backup plan now. You'd think after Community that the Russo's would be more weary of Sony.

So happy the spiderman thing worked out. Even with all the cynical folks saying "spiderman felt so forced in". Idc... it was glorious

When Spider-Man was announced to be in the movie, I had high hopes for him to have a role at least half as impactful as the one he had in the Civil War comic. His inclusion turned out to be disappointing, at least to me. Sure, it was a nice way to introduce him to the MCU, but scenes like Tony going to Peter's house to recruit him made me feel like it was more of an Avengers movie, since it strayed too much from the main Steve Rogers' arc.

@OuzoPowerMan - What I'm trying to say is that, for a Captain America movie, Spider-man's inclusion like this felt a bit off.
