Archie is one of the most recognisable and long-standing icons in comics, but the character and his world have been getting a shake-up as of late. The gang are battling a zombie apocalypse in Afterlife With ArchieGirls creator Lena Dunham is set to pen a four-part story, and now the long-running Archie title will be getting a relaunch with a brand new creative team. Writer Mark Waid and artist Fiona Staples will introduce a new look and feel with Archie #1, set to arrive in 2015. The new take is to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the character (he first debuted in Pep Comics #22 in December 1941), with Waid wanting to restore Archie's relevance and contemporary attitudes. "Over the years, some of the sharp edges have been sanded off," he told the New York Times. "They are kids, and they should act as kids." Reactions from current readers are generally positive, but what do you guys think? And if you've never read an Archie comic before, does this pique your interest? Sound off below.

Btw, I've never read an Archie comic in my life, but I found this news really interesting. I think I'll check it out.

@Melkaticox
I know teenagers that read comics. And not just, "yeah, I watched the Avengers 10 times and now I know comics" but go down to their LCS every few weeks and buy books.

I grew up reading Archie comics and I can credit them for making comics more accessible and popular with general teenagers and kids.

I own(ed) 3-5 Archie comics, got them from my older cousins when me and my family were visiting our relatives in Canada. I was 5 at the time and couldn't read English for shit. Discovered them again many years later and found them quite charming in a weird way.

Mark Waid and Fiona Staples doing a new Archie #1 sounds pretty crazy and I might actually end up reading this someday.

Are they ditching classic Archie altogether in favor for this??

Cause I remember all the flack when they tried less cartoony artwork with Archie a few years back.
