COMICS: SUPERMAN Gets A New Costume In "The New 52"; Does The Red Underwear Return?

Superman's redesign for "The New 52" reboot was controversial with some fans, especially as the Man of Steel lost his red trunks and gained a higher v-neck collar. Well, John Romita Jr.'s Superman #38 cover has revealed his latest costume, and there are once again some big alterations!

No, the red underwear still hasn't returned! However, the streamlined suit (the various folds have gone for the most part) has changed Superman's collar by getting rid of the V, while also adding figerless gloves and a redesigned belt and boots. This new look will debut in Geoff Johns and John Romita Jr.'s Superman #38. What do you guys think of the slight redesign? Sound off below!

Don't know why everyone's afraid of the red underwear- as if its something to be embarrassed about. Superman can wear it because he's friggin Superman and no one can stop him.

But for real reason, aesthetically, the red trunks breaks up the uniformity of having just plain blue from top to bottom. This went for all heroes who wore "underwear" on the outside. it was a visual quirk that I don't think today's artist fully appreciate.

I'm not saying it's bad. But I need to see Aaron Kuder's take on it.

I'm not a huge fan of the New 52 Batsuit but the way Capullo draws it makes it look awesome over Jim Lee and Tony Daniel.

It doesn't look bad but again, just can't tell with JRJR's art.

they still use another hideous design for this so called "new" suit?? The man's wearing friggin' finger gloves with the turtle neck! Why the hell does this madness continue? At least with Snyder, we got a movie uniform that's somewhat linked to the classic threads.

Of course the red underwear wouldn't come back, he doesn't wear it in the movies and like marvel dc is probably going to want to eventually get the comics matching the movies to a point.

It can seriously do without the gloves. But other than that, while I never had problems with the previous suit, this is a huge improvement. Simplified, that bit of the yellow on the belt adds so much of the balance the previous suit lacked, and I love the return of the classic boots. It has a very new school meets old school look. But i hope artists eventually drop the gloves.

Like the cape on the shoulders -- the suit overall is fine. The artwork is another story.
