COMICS: Could The DC Logo Launch Sooner Then We Thought?

The controversial new logo from DC could make its debut this week. Details after the jump!

DC applied for a new logo trademark recently, to much internet dismay. The new DC "peel" logo as some call it may be closer to its debut then we think.

Rich Johnston over at Bleeding Cool, who reported the new logo wrote this morning that a relatively reliable source close to DC Comics said that the new logo was announced to DC Comics staff in New York last week. Johnston stated:

"I’m told that the consensus is that the logo works well as an animated item, but less well as a static logo, that might appear on printed books, signage and the like. And certain editors more committed to print, found themselves in an usual alliance against the new logo. I’m told that that the plan (at least it was, last week) is to announce it very vocally, visibly, animatedly and colourfully, on Wednesday this week."

The new logo, still not released in any sort of color version, may be out tomorrow in a couple of forms if this report is true although it seems unlikely that it will appear on the cover of DC comics this month. It looks like DC may be going ahead despite much criticism from all forms of fandom and DC employees alike. A couple of polls on this site showed how much of us felt about it. Now that it seems more likely then many thought how do you feel? Do you think you'll change your mind when you see it on your next comic book purchase? Do you think we could see it before The Dark Knight? Sound off below.

But does that mean that it will officially be used in every single of DC's properties by then? If yes, then...oh, God.

Oh they better not have that before TDKR, it'll ruin the consistency of the trilogy. Stupid DC.

Looks like they're trying to capitalize on the fact that this looks like an Apple logo rip off. I mean I get the idea, it's not so much being 'peeled' as it is a page being turned. It's supposed to look like a comic book. But the execution of the idea is terrible, the old design was so dynamic, it looked like something from inside a comic, and it was stunning to watch on the big screen.

This is going to look like some cookie-cutter, software company, cheesy advert shit.

Why cant we just keep the old logo?! Next thing you know they are going to sell out to a major children's network...Oh wait...that happened. i wish we could just stick to having animated DC showcase movies and stuff like that. Im sick of how marvel and Dc have given up there effort in making comics good so that they can make more and more gawd aweful shows.

This is even worse than the current logo, I don't even see why they changed it from the metal logo from the 80s-90s to whatever the hell the current one from 2005 is supposed to look like...

This seems more like a logo for a large paper company - It's elegant. I understand the tie-in to turning the page but the representation is so stale and plain. What's wrong with the current iconic logo?

1. The logo they have now han't been around that long and looks just fine.

2. The new logo is just plain boring. It looks like something the agency on Mad Men would come up with for a text-book publishing firm from the 60's.

Page turning=Comic book company

Grey and Black=their top selling character

Makes sense to me.

I'm a huge DC fan and I love the current logo. It fits really well with the company and is understated and classy. This new logo just really looks kind of tacky, and I think DC might come to regret this move.

Ridiculous Logo. That 2-letters-in-1 is so 90's.

So they go with a edgy new futuristic design for the majority of their heroes but decide to go lame on the logo? Unless they plan on having a holgraphic effect involving this logo, like the character's image in it and opening to a C then this is all around just a bad move.
