Thanks to Newsarama, below are two preview pages of The Curse of Shazam featuring the new version of Billy Batson, as well as a few words from creators Geoff Johns and Gary Frank. The title will be released as 10-page stories featured in the back of each month's Justice League book, starting with #7 this March.

"There's a touch of whimsical magic in this story," Johns said, "and it's a lot of fun, with a lot of heart and a very emotional journey for these guys. It's all about the characters. It's just a different type of book, with Billy at the center of it, and what the situation is."

"The whole thing is being done from the point of view of bringing in new fans as well as trying to excite the existing ones," Frank said. "Anyone will be able to pick this up even if they have never heard of Shazam, Captain Marvel or Billy Batson." The artist also added that the stories will feature a very modern Shazam, with a slight shift in emphasis.

If they made a fun family movie about Billy Batson as a CHILD who becomes a full-grown superhero when he changes, it would WORK. Kids would EAT IT UP. Little boys would LOVE that concept! Plus the magic aspect would work with today's Harry-Potter-loving generation. I have no idea why people can't figure out how to make this into a movie. The animated short they did as part of their Showcase collection recently worked really well too.

Making him a grown man takes away one of the biggest elements that makes him unique in a world full of adult superheroes. Almost all superheroes still have their powers when they are not in costume. Billy is completely human when he isn't Shazam, and making him a child on top of that increases his vulnerability. Plus it gives him a child's perspective on the world, which is also unique to other heroes.

And I agree that while John's Green Lantern & Aquaman are fantastic so far, his Justice League has been terrible. It's as if I'm reading a comic that is a transcription of a 10 year old boy playing with his action figures. Bad out-of-character dialogue, no actual story, and lots of punching.

You know Captain Marvel actually outsold Superman in the 40s and probably would have continued to do so if DC hadn't filed a lawsuit. Geoff Johns + Gary Frank = Magic.

You guys don't know what this series is about, do you? In the back-up, the Wizard is looking all over the world to find someone worthy of his power, so that is most likely NOT Billy Batson. Johns loves the character and has said that the series will have classic elements, so I very highly doubt that he would ruin the whole point of Captain Marvel and make him an adult in his secret ID.

@TheGODDAMNSUPERGUY- Not sure if Billy Batson is a wannabe Clark, seeing as Batson is the original Character not Captain Marvel, and Superman is the original character not Clark Kent!

Superior on the other hand, he's a Captain Marvel Rip, Sentry is completely offside from both character of Supes and Marvel... He's just nuts!

Why the f*ck does there have to be a NEW Billy Batson? A good writer writes for the character, not changes the character because he's not good enough to write it. The reason the character has been around as long as it has and works, is because it connects with the child's desire to read a comic and wish he could be the hero. Billy is the boy who can be the hero. Why do a character when you change key elements that help to make the character special and what it is in the first place?

the lamest part about this character was that he was a kid who could transform into a superhero. if they can rework that he could make the dc universe a little more interesting.

SpideyQuad

This could work. Billy has never been grounded in the present, to me that was the main problem with Capt. Marvel, he was to old time comic book. Bringing the whole concept into the present opens up the captains full potential.

That better NOT be Billy, he looks like an Archie comic reject. The fact that he's a kid/and human is what sets him apart from superman and in my opinion makes him better. Capt. Marvel has the potential to be the kind of character all children and teens can relate to (how many kids can't wait to be adults)You take away his youth, and you pretty much destroy this character! other than maybe 3-4 titles this new 52 has been a total failure. Sorry DC I've had your back long enough, but this cuts the "big red cheese" pun intended!!

@JGreenbeastofOH i agree the fact that he was a child is what made shazam different from most everyone other i can fly, have super strength, speed etc guys...if u wanna see how they should make shazam take a look at young justice....love his character in that

Where does it say that he's not a kid? He looks like a boy in all the panels.
