Earlier this month the news broke that Gail Simnone's editor on Batgirl had decided to fire her as he exclusive contract with DC ran out. An enormous amount of support for Simone rang out over the internet, with good reason, for DC to reverse this decision. It seems that the powers that be listen, because Ms. Simone has sent out the following tweet about who the new writer of Batgril is.

According to Bleeding Cool, DC was looking to avoid anymore negative press from what happened. This included have people at Cons ask about what happened. Whatever the case may be, it looks as if Simone is on Batgirl to stay, and that is a good thing. For the latest on DC comics make sure to keep check back here at CBM.

YES!

It would have been ridiculous to kick her off that title. Simone's run started off a little bumpy, but it's finally picking up a head of steam-- to fire her now would be to kill off all the momentum Batgirl has finally been picking up and force the book to start all over again.

FINALLY, DC avoids screwing up, rather than just making things worse.

Sounds good, from what I hear removing her was a rather dumb move, and done without much grace.

@AcidicHeart

I feel your pain, buddy! :/

Honestly, who cares. I'm not reading Batgirl until they put Barbara Gordon back in the wheelchair and have her play the more important role of Oracle. I'm not saying I won't buy the tie-in books (I'm a collector, what can I say), but at the end of the day "fixing" Barbara Gordon so she can be Batgirl again was a stupid idea.

yingyangpalms@ I'm pretty sure there's no gender issue, here. Just read this article as if Gail Simone is male. That could help you digest this. She's a fan favorite writer, there was news she was leaving a book, fans reacted, she's not leaving anymore. See? No gender issue. You might want to have a little word with yourself, there.

I laugh at the politics. They had a reason, whatever it may be, to fire her. Then finding out that she has a very huge fanbase, they decide to keep her. It works every time and that train's never late.

[frick] YES!

I was seriously pissed off that she had been axed from Batgirl. It was bad enough with Reis leaving Aquaman.

Dude, what does making a fuss about it and getting fans to rally for her have with being a woman. Thta's kind of a huge leap in logic, there. Leifeld made a shitload more fuss over Deathstroke, he was bitching and moaning all the way and as loud as he could, the difference is, Simone stayed professional by not directly insulting DC or the bigwigs in charge, there. That's why she got her job back and Liefeld didn't.
Again, look over your own damn comments, sir. That gender thing is just shoe-horned in there as if we're supposed to automatically assume that the reason the made a fuss was because of her gender and that a man wouldn't do so, which is absurd. Or are you saying that they took sympathy on her because of her gender and they wouldn't have done so with a man. Or are you saying she's sucking Lee and DiDio's dicks or what?
Just what are you actually saying here, yingyangpalms@? How on earth is this anything to do with her gender?

Am I the only one who didn't like her work on Batgirl? No, wait, I wasn't. The editors don't like it either.
I've dropped the book, but I'm glad she gets to keep her job.

Sweet! Didn't like that DC were dumping a genuinely good writer, so very glad to hear she's back on the title.

I'm not sure who's more irrelevant-Simone or Batgirl??
Most comic shops get stuck with crap like Batgirl because DC forces them to carry it.
When a writer or artist sucks, they get stuck on crappy characters like Batgirl, Namor, She-Hulk.
Its like a marriage of suckiness. So I guess Simone does belong on that comic, or at least until Dr. Fate, or Power Pack get a reboot.

Like when they put Frank Miller on Daredevil and Alan Moore on Swamp Thing, you mean? Simone was the obvious choice for Batgirl, because of her hisory with the character, being the creator and architect on the Birds of Prey series, in the 90s.

I don't really care about this situation one way or the other, since I don't read Batgirl, but I remember when the news first broke that she was getting canned, it was stated that her sales were actually pretty high.

If in fact the were pretty good sales numbers, then it makes no sense why she was getting dumped in the first place. The only thing I can think of is the editor wanted to do something different creatively. But if you already (supposedly) have good sales for Batgirl, of all people, then I think a policy of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" might be best.

So I guess what I'm saying is... good for Simone. If in fact she was getting good numbers, she deserves to keep her job.
