Starting with issue #4, Action Comics will begin to feature 8 page back up stories which will tie directly into the main 20 page story. The first will feature the New 52 debut of Steel and will be written by Sholly Fisch (Brave And The Bold). Here is a first glimpse at the new Steel prototype armor by Brad Walker, based off a design by Rags Morales..

From DC's The Source..

The lead story in ACTION #4 by Grant Morrison and Rags Morales features the debut of the “New 52” Steel! Last we saw of John Henry Irons, in ACTION #2, he had quit his military job in protest over Lex Luthor torturing Superman under General Lane’s command. Now, as the Terminauts lay siege to Metropolis, it’s time for John Henry to put his money where his mouth is and go help Superman defend the city. The backup in #4 ties into the main story by depicting a critical fight between Steel and the brand new Metall-0!

@BlueMex

It might be a armor suit still we saw how one looked in the last issue when Metallo put one on.

Always liked Steel so I am glad he is getting some use.

Exactly, what are DC trying to do? That's not Steel. Even with prototype armor. Like the hammer though.

wait a minute, so does this mean the death of storyline never happened? cause i thought DC said that was still canon.

I couldn't care less about the character so whatever. Don't think the art looks that bad though.

@thedude DiDio (fire DiDio, btw!) said parts of it happened. But, they're not in a hurry to explain.

Which means "we have no idea". Seriously, Superman is around for 5 years, but he already died once????

@Superguy sorry man, but do you mean "it can't get retconned" or "it didn't get"?

I like it simply because it's just like the rest of Action Comics, it's an early look at the ahcracter. What would be great is if current Steel shows up in Superman with a suit that is closer to his original look, but still maintains some of the look we have here.

thedude2936 - 11/8/2011, 2:05 PM
@rbfn so im gonna take a guess and say the only aspects that stayed canon is his battle and death, cause clearly the reign of the supermen part of the the story is retconned, as is his relationship with lois and the jla's battle with doomsday seems to be retconned as well, but yet apparently coast city still got destroyed cause didnt Dc say hal jordan's backstory is primarily unchanged?

thedude2936 - 11/8/2011, 2:10 PM
@ superguy you sure it got fully retconned?Because I remember Didio and Jurgens both saying aspects of it are still canon.

Hmmm I declare a new word not to be brought into being. Instead of debut it should be deboot which means the first appearance.....again

SithLord: You could say that the real John Henry Irons copied Thor. Or maybe John Henry Irons was a Thor reincarnation.

I dont want to judge too harshly on one image, especially without knowing the story, but if this is the final then this just means DC has 2 cyborgs.
But maybe this isnt Irons prototype and not his final version.
