COMICS: What March's Batman Solicitations Tell Us About DEATH OF THE FAMILY

The first issues after the "Death of the Family" arc in the Batbooks start in March and the solicitations for those titles tell us a few kernels of information about who lives and who dies after the Joker's machinations have run their course.

WORLDS’ FINEST #10 - Huntress is personally affected by a tragedy in The New 52!

BATMAN, INCORPORATED #9 - The fallout from last month’s shocking turn of events has Batman on the run! Is The Dark Knight a murderer?

BATMAN AND ROBIN #18 - It’s the BATMAN AND ROBIN story of the year!

BATMAN #18 - In the wake of unspeakable tragedy, Batman is in danger of losing his humanity!

BATGIRL #18 - Batgirl must face the man who sold her out to The Joker during “DEATH OF THE FAMILY”...her own brother, James Gordon, Jr.

CATWOMAN #18 - In the fallout from “DEATH OF THE FAMILY,” Catwoman and Batman spend a night at the museum—fighting over stolen art!

NIGHTWING #18 - Dick Grayson lost so much during “DEATH OF THE FAMILY” that some new events are going to push him right over the edge!

RED HOOD AND THE OUTLAWS #18 - Jason Todd suffered terribly at the hands of The Joker in “DEATH OF THE FAMILY,” and now he’s changing the Outlaws’ mission!

TEEN TITANS #18 - Unknown to the Teen Titans, Red Robin’s condition is worsening after the events of “DEATH OF THE FAMILY.” And now Red Robin must face an even greater tragedy!

From these solicitations we know that Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Nightwing, Catwoman, Batgirl and Batman all survive Death of the Family. Not specifically named are Damion, Commissioner Gordon nor Alfred making it seem likely that one of these three individuals will fall victim to the Joker's evil intentions. In fact, looking across all these titles it seems as if Batman has killed the Joker in retaliation for an 'unforgivable tragedy'. So with that in mind, who do you think won't survive Death of the Family?

It's hard to say. Why would Batman be on the run for murder? Maybe covering for Damien? This story accross all books has been nuts.

Well we know alfreds blind and hes going to serve at a dinner for joker and the batfamily.

Snyder already stated on last weeks "Fatman on Batman" that he is NOT going to kill Alfred. He loves that character and knows everyone else does too.

its a 50 reading it in the Batman title. It varies when including the other titles. None of them suck, but you aren't missing anything by not reading them.

I doubt its Alfred. Im sure DC is leading us that way to lead us away from the big hit. I would but my cards on someone that we have yet to see. Someone everyone forgetting about. Who that somone is, I have no Idea but Im sure it will be a surprise

If alfreds alive will he stay blind? When Batman was tripping off the joker toxin and they showed joker wearing butler clothes wearing alfreds face I flipped at first lol

It's Damian, not Damien or Damion. It's like saying Allfred or Gorden. It's just wrong. Sort it out.

Batgirl, detective comics, the dark knight, batman and robin, suicide squad are great. Catwomans were good but not a must. I have a feeling the nightwing ,red hood , teen titans ones are going to be important.

If any of the Bat family dies from Joker I am going to have a hard time believing Batman doesn't end up killing him and dealing with the consequences. Make it an epic as hell issue but do the deed. One of them has to.

It's not Alfred. He's been tortured too much and with that page in #15, nothing worse than that will happen to him. However he has been put out of commission indefinitely. My guess is, after that phenomenal Batman&Robin#15, either Damian gets it, or Tim Drake will fail to "save" Jason Todd, the new man who laughs. Otherwise this event has been filled with twists I didn't see coming. However, I do find it a cop out whenever Batman goes back into Arkham Asylum and gets locked in.

Tim Drake will kill Joker is my best guess. It has the most potential for conflict amongst the batfamily, and he's the least invested in the Joker. Everyone's had their shine with a Joker Beatdown but him.

its not Damien...on the DC website I read the plot for a future comic with him in it...

Damian dies, Harper Row becomes the new Robin/Stephanie Brown/Carrie Kelly!

Then clone Damian battles Harper Row, lol, something like that would be cool. Plus you cant have Batman without Gordon or Alfred.

Wildaniel - 12/16/2012, 12:16 PM
I could be right, Harper Row will be in the backup story in Batman #18.

I also think Tim Drake will kill Joker. It could be what "death of the family" is all about. It seems like the Joker is trying to see how far he can go until someone says enough is enough and do to the Joker what Batman can't.

BatmanBlueLantern - 12/16/2012, 1:17 PM
Well shucks, if it is Damian I will be mad. And dear god, please don't be Dick, Tim or Alfred. Jason I'm fine with killing off.
SwagInScience
SwagInScience - 12/16/2012, 1:20 PM
I doubt it'll be anyone significant. Maybe more of a mass murder. Such as Batman failing to stop the Joker from killing a lot of people. Knowing Scott Snyders Batman, that'll virtually destroy Batmans will.

SwagInScience - 12/16/2012, 1:22 PM
@ Wildaniel, I would be ok with that. She was pretty badass in Batman #12

I know this might seem crazy but what if it's not the "real" Joker? It's just something that's been stuck in my head since the event started, I agree he's gone too far even for him.
MisterBabadook
MisterBabadook - 12/16/2012, 2:11 PM
It does seem like a different person, depending on the writer (Anne Nocenti) but I think through Gail Simone, it's apparent, this is the old Joker we know and love.

I voted on Alfred, but I agree with the people that say it'll be no one of importance. A buddy of mine and myself have been saying for years that someone would off Alfred, and everytime, no one dies. Maybe its time, but probably not. I respect a few writers at DC, but have been growing a distrust for the editorial and executive staff allowing major developments to happen.

So, probably not Alfred.

Sadly my friends. It will be Alfred. Don't you see where the story is going. The only thing to make Batman go past his humanity is to kill his Father. Alfred. I believe Batman will finally kill the Joker. This is where it will end. It was gonna come down to this sooner or later. Well done for Snyder. For being the man that will write the end of the battle between Batman and The Joker.
