FEATURE: What's The Most Valuable Comic Book You Own?

We all love comic books. After all, the movies you visit this site to read about ARE all based on them! What I'd like to know is which comic in your collection is your prized (and most valuable) possession?

With Stan "The Man" Lee set to appear at a UK convention for the first time in nearly 40 years, I've been scouring eBay for a worthy comic book to get signed by the legendary creator. I have a few decent ones here I could take, but no REAL classics. Then I came across an 8.5 CGC graded copy of The Amazing Spider-Man #9 - the first appearance of my second favourite Spidey villain, Electro. How much? A whopping £1,250 (which is just under $2,000)! Now, I love comic books, and I REALLY love Spider-Man, but I just couldn't bring myself to spend such a crazy amount despite the fanboy inside of me pretty much begging for it.

Anyway, this got me thinking. What's the most expensive comic book you own? Regardless of whether it's one you've had in your collection for years or an expensive purchase you've made recently, I'd love to know. Feel free to share the details of your pricey comics below and a few pictures of them would be a bonus!

I'm not 100% sure actually, I think it's either a near mint first printing of Sandman #1, or a first print of that issue of Amazing Spider-Man with Obama on the front. I have lot of older comics of course, but I don't think many are in good enough condition to be worth too much.

I have Claremont's Uncanny X-Men #1 from 1975, but it's not in perfect condition. Also, I have X-force #1 that I bought at a drug store for like three buck's.

no idea... but since I was a kid I've always been partial to Uncanny X-Men #300 with all the hologram X's on the Cover and a great story inside too.

Or i've got like 4 of the original Fatal Attractions comics with the hologram card on the cover... but without being a full set i doubt they're worth much...
still fun to look at though hehe

I have a story that will make you all cry..it does to me on a regular basis. When my older brother was about 11 or 12 he had a huge collection of comics, many were very rare and in great condition..I mean like early Amazing Fantasy, Action Comics, right up to THE first issue of X-Men etc..stuff that would have been worth a lot of money today had it still been in the same nick. Anyway, one day when he was out with my dad my sister threw them out. She thought they were old and he didn't want them anymore.

like Josh, Amazing Spidey #36, the 9/11 issue.

then there is: the special deluxe, leather-bound edition of Kingdom Come..and most other DC's Alex Ross stuff.

also, JLA/Avengers, DC vs Marvel (each, the original first print single issues).

the Millar/Hitch Ultimates..missing #1 & 2 of the first arc.

the Whedon/Cassaday Astonishing X-Men series.

...and of course: CIVIL WAR (original first print single issues).

@Ror - I can do you one better on the sadness tip: My entire 3000 comic book collection that was in storage in my grandmother's basement was destroyed by a flood. They WERE on a table, but someone put them on the floor and "poof", no more collection. I'm collecting all sympathy right....now!

my 2 most valuable both pertain to Thor.

Journey Into Mystery #83 The First appearance of Thor

and

Journey Into Mystery #112 Thor and Hulk fight for the first time.

i got these at a yard sale when I was 11 and had no idea what comics could potentially be worth. My mom paid 20 bucks for a box of around 100 comics from the old lady having the sale and i got a treasure trove of good ones. these 2 i believe are the most valuable. Sadly the condition on them is just ok. there are creases in the pages, bends in the spine, obvious signs of handling.

@RorMachine Dude, that's awful. Some people don't know how valuable a lot of comics are.
