Black Cat Comic Will Seemingly Reveal That Felicia Hardy Is A Mutant - And She's Getting A New Costume!

This November's Black Cat #17 looks set to reveal that Felicia Hardy is a mutant, a major status quo shift that will see the longtime Spider-Man love interest seemingly join the X-Men.

Since the Age of Krakoa ended, Marvel Comics has struggled to find a solid direction for the X-Men. While X-Men and Uncanny X-Men have gone back to focusing on two separate teams of mutants, crossovers have received mixed reviews, and the third ongoing title, Exceptional X-Men, was cancelled after thirteen issues.

Now, it appears the X-Men's world is set to receive an unexpected addition in the form of Felicia Hardy, a.k.a. Black Cat. AIPT has revealed that November's Black Cat #17 will seemingly reveal that the longtime Spider-Man supporting character is a mutant.

This feels a lot like what happened to Ms. Marvel, and comes amid continued rumours that Peter Parker will eventually be revealed as a mutant in the MCU. If Black Cat is a mutant and a member of the X-Men, then we can potentially expect her to get the Jean Grey treatment in the Spider-Man: Brand New Day sequel.

"Meet the newest mutant...Felicia Hardy?!" reads the official description for Black Cat #17. "Witness Felicia Hardy’s own second genesis — as the newest member of the X-Men! Felicia’s encounter with Emma Frost left her changed. Shall we say...mutated?"

While this could be a misdirect or a psychic hallucination caused by the White Queen, it does look a lot like Black Cat is about to join the X-Men. She's even rocking a new costume, and this would be a way for Marvel Comics to explain Felicia's poorly defined powers.

Black Cat's most distinctive ability is her "bad luck" power, also known as probability manipulation. She can subconsciously alter probability around herself, causing unlikely misfortunes to befall her opponents. This can result in weapons malfunctioning, enemies tripping or seemingly random accidents occurring at crucial moments.

The exact nature of this power has changed over the years. It's been tied to cybernetic enhancements and magical abilities, but Felicia being a mutant will help straighten out her conflicting past. A longtime love interest of Spider-Man, recent years have also seen Black Cat established as bisexual.

We'll have to wait and see what the future holds in store for Black Cat and her potential mutant status. Either way, fans are bound to have something to say about this latest shakeup.

Check out this first look at Black Cat #17 below and stay tuned for updates as we have them.

Black cat?? mutant power??bad luck power??history....black cat got her powers back in spectacular Spider-Man #89 away back in 1984...from an experiment from the kingpin..but her not knowing the kingpin made it soo that she would cause Spider-Man bad luck mishaps anytime they were in close range.......wonder how will MARVEL explain an reference that....

Yeah sure I guess, everyone's a mutant. Sucks that G Willow gets saddled with doing this story during her run, she'll get the heat for dumb editorial decisions.

It’s sad how comic books writers are running out of original ideas and have to rely on rewriting established characters as having some different origin. It’s kinda pathetic tbh.

How many Spider-Man type characters are there now? Or Hulk like characters? When in doubt just carbon copy an existing character and change a minor detail, or race swap a character or gender swap a character. It’s all so tiresome and unnecessary.

My grandmother told me, "If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all." And even she would've called that costume ass.

What is Marvel's obsession with suddenly turning already established characters into mutants. So lazy.

I love it! Since Marvel has never, ever had a mutant with the powers to alter probabilities around her, thereby giving everyone bad luck.

Being a mutant is the biggest (and arguably cleverest) cheat code ever for comic book writers. Whenever you can't be bothered with an origin story or need to retcon a confusing one, just throw the mutant card.

I think that there is more than meets the eye in this upcoming X-Con arc. Would it really make sense to change her character and even her entire design just as the current run has been extended for 5 more issues before it probably ends? It's fishy.

There's also the fact that the writer wrote on her Twitter account that "Emma Frost is playing 3D chess", so that's enough of a clue to wonder if Felicia is really gonna awaken mutant powers OR there is a catch in all of this. Plus it's a con and heist story, there's gotta bound to be twists and turns.

I've been enjoying her Marvel-Team Up-esque comic, can't wait to see what will happen when it gets there but for now the new issue that comes out tomorrow with Black Cat going on a space mission at the request of the F4 has me excited.

Lets take Black Cat and change all her defining atributes.

That costume is awful. Why would they change her hair color? Felicia is a good character but like Ms. Marvel and Mary Jane, Marvel keeps trying to make her happen.

Mary Jane was the angel on Peters shoulder who loved Peter and accecpted Spider-man. Felicia was the devil on Peters shoulder who was infatuated with Spider-man and accepted Peter (later). Once they changed that, they ruined it. Those Spidey comics around the time of the black costume were peak. He ran around with Black Cat and the Hobgoblin/Puma/Gang War stories were peak.
