COMICS: AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: YEAR ONE Coming In May With Covers From Alex Ross

Coinciding with the release of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in theatres this May, Marvel will be releasing a five-issue miniseries from Dan Slott, Ramón Pérez and Alex Ross called Amazing Spider-Man, Year One: Learning to Crawl, shedding new light on the iconic character's origin story...

This May, writer Dan Slott and artist Ramón Pérez will shed some light on Peter Parker's early days as Spider-Man in Amazing Spider-Man, Year One: Learning to Crawl. "When you're looking at things in those issues, you're going: 'Wait a minute! How did this happen? How did he get this? Where did this come from? Why didn't Aunt May ever wonder about that?'" Slott said in an interview with The Associated Press today. "Learning To Crawl" kicks off in May with Amazing Spider-Man #1.1, and Alex Ross has painted a cover for each instalment of the new series. However, what will it add to the already very familiar tale? "Someone's running around trying to be just like Spider-Man and there's no way in Peter's mind that he's not responsible for everything that guy's going to do," Slott revealed. "He's got his first villain who is his own age, someone that he's inspired. He's a troubled teen hero fighting a troubled teen villain!"

Out of all the people they could have gotten to do this, they chose the on person who has been ruining Spider-Man for the last several years.

Could have been much worse, though. Joe Quesada could be writing it.

This is fantastic! I would have liked to see a cover by Granov and story by Joe Kelly but either way this gets two fuzzy thumbs up!

I don't mind Slott on Superior, it's been interesting - a little all over the place at times. REALLY despise "Peter's" little person GF. BUT i definitely think this would be a perfect opportunity for someone new to come in and write some kick-ass Spidey shit.

I mean really...Dan Slott has taken the character so far from his roots hes not recognizable anymore. If you want to read an edgier more hardcore Spider Man go read Scarlet Spider. We didnt need Octo Spider. I know some people enjoy Superior Spider Man, but they literally ruined Peter Parker.

I think Alex Ross work looks amazing. This isnt my favorite piece, but its a lot better than that super cartoony stuff we have been seeing on a lot of the covers lately.

@Gaebora

Technically his work is amazing, I mean, the man can draw and paint. But beyond that everything else is just sh!t IMO and completely devoid of any personality and imagination.
