COMICS: Cullen Bunn Teases Eddie Brock's New Role As 'Toxin' In VENOM

Talking to Newsarama, Venom writer Cullen Bunn has teased the roe of Eddie Brock in that series AND the Marvel Universe moving forward. As Flash Thompson is currently in control of the 'Venom' symbiote, the iconic character will instead be taking on the role of 'Toxin' (although it sounds as if we should expect a much different take on the character than the one seen during the "Savage Six" story arc). The full interview can be found by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page. In that, Bunn also reveals that the chances of the Superior Spider-Man and Venom coming face-to-face at some point in the near future is, "a certainty". Sound off with your thoughts in the usual place!

You'll start getting glimpses of him before issue #31, but in #31, Toxin returns. There are a lot of people who say, "Eddie Brock should be the only Venom. He's the only person worthy of being Venom." My goal, as lofty as it may be, is, I really want people to forget about Eddie as Venom. What [artist] Declan [Shalvey] and I are trying to do is, once we tell this story, I want people to associate Eddie Brock with Toxin.

It's a lofty goal, because he has such a big history with Venom, but a lot of people really liked when he was Anti-Venom. We want to make Toxin a viable, interesting, dynamic character on his own — the Eddie/Toxin combo, or "Broxin" as I've seen him referred. [Laughs.] Our goal is to really make people love and hate and fear Toxin, and Eddie Brock.

When Eddie and Toxin were bonded in "Savage Six," he was almost like this mindless killing machine. That is not the Toxin you are going to see. I don't want to say he's solidly a villain, but for Venom, at least, he is solidly an antagonist. The one thing that Eddie and Toxin have in common is that they both hate Venom — both the symbiote and the man. That solidifies their partnership to some degree.

@rebellion I was thinking the same thing.

Personally, I hope Eddie returns in his role as Venom, but I really like Flash as Venom too, so I don't know. As for Eddie becoming the new Toxin, that's kind of cool I guess, and it will be interesting to see him and Flash face off.

i would love to see Eddie as venom, but it will be cool to see what they do with "Broxin"

he has the most experience with symbiots, so i think i shall see where this goes.

So Brock and Toxin hate Venom so we are getting a new version of the old Venom where it was Brock and Venom hated Spider-man. Folks welcome Venom V4.5

Sweet. It would be interesting to see what they do with those two. The showdown between Brock/Toxin and Flash/Venom has the potential to be brutal.

Yea, I want Eddie Brock to be Venom again, the original Venom. That's the main reason why I haven't read the Venom series with Flash Thompson as Venom.(I would prefer if he wasn't a superhero at all).

CUT AND PASTED FROM WIKEPEDIA

Return/Eddie Brock
The Toxin symbiote later appears in an underground lab in Las Vegas, having apparently been separated from Mulligan. Blackheart is secretly in charge of the operation to duplicate the Toxin symbiote and bond it to clones of X-23 as part of a soul-stealing plot. The Crime Master sends his underling Jack O' Lantern and blackmails his enemy Venom into retrieving the symbiote. A fight with security personnel results in Jack taking the symbiote and fleeing.[9]
Along with Venom, Anti-Venom, Hybrid, and his sister Scorn, Toxin is mentioned as being the next option to stop Carnage's rampage in the Mid-west after the Avengers are defeated.[10] However, the US military is unable to find Toxin, leaving it up to the Hybrid symbiotes and Scorn to stop Carnage.[11]
After killing Hybrid and Scream, Eddie Brock follows Venom into Crime Master's headquarters as part of his plan to destroy all symbiotes. During the ensuing fight between Venom and Crime Master's underlings, Crime Master locks Brock up and forcibly bonds him to the symbiote, making him the new Toxin.[12] Brock joins the Savage Six to fight Venom,[13] but is severely burned in their final fight.[14]

I wish Brock hadn't stopped being Anti-Venom, he was so awesome.

Feh. To me, Eddie Brock will always be Venom--the 1994 Spider-Man cartoon proved that. He's the only person who just fits the character. And I liked Pat Mulligan as Toxin--for once, a symbiote (besides Hybrid) on the side of the angels.

I have never been too much of a fan of comic Brock. He was basically a means to an end. The cartoons are the series that made him a somebody to me(particularly spectacular Spider-man). I enjoyed ult Brock as well.

I enjoyed Mac Gargan much more. When Flash became Venom I rolled my eyes. Now I don't want to see anyone but him in the suit. They really made it work.

Toxin I'm iffy on. The Toxin we saw I hope they explain why the thing is acting like a monster when it was a big deal that his former host was taming him. I also like even through all that initiative stuff, we never saw the character.

I think Anti Venom was a strong character. Now we are right back to square one.

@GUNSMITH- i thought the toxin symbiote was able to handle heat and sound better than both the carnage and venom symbiote?,

i'm really excited for this. i can't wait to see the new toxin design, something old school with some new flare.

Was Toxin an offshoot of Venom during the Separation Anxiety? You know what, if its too long of an explanation, nevermind, I'll just go with the flow. Spider-Man and Venom and Marvel in general do so much it's just downright confusing to a DC head.

Ahhh what a joke. Hopefully Toxin has a baby like Venom and Carnage did and it will be called Venom Jr. and join with Eddie Brock.

The images inside and on the cover of ASM 317 will stay with me forever. I love Todd McFarlane and Venom. I think he had the perfect idea on the look/style of Venom, and I'd Love to see what he'd do with the image of Venom in 2013. And by that I don't mean Spawn or "Haunt" (
