Loving this title & can't wait for Battle Of The Atom.

SN: They should let Steve Epting or Coipel draw an arc for this book.

@LordHuck
@Ineedrevelation

Seriously. I'm not even big on Marvel lately and I can admit that they have amazing artists, probably more so than DC and the rest of the industry at this point. Joe Mad is great but he can't keep a deadline to save his life. Plus, he makes a ton of mistakes and liberties in terms of anatomy. And to add to LordHuck's list:

Adam Kubert
David Marquez
Stuart Immonen
Esad Ribic
Jerome Opena
Jim Cheung
Leinil Yu
Steve McNiven
Guissepe Camuncoli
Adi Granov
Marko Djurdjovic
Marco Chechetto
Ryan Stegman
Mark Brooks (come on now, his covers in general, but those Fearless Defenders covers? Gold)
Mark Bagley
Paolo Rivera
Chris Samnee

And the list can still go on.
Even Frazer Irving here is damned good. Just because his style is not super heroes in the traditional sense doesn't make it any less.

Oh and they have Mahmud Asrar now. That guy made the New 52's Supergirl, and I'm excited to see what he does with Marvel.

And I HATE when people say the artists suck. It's one thing to not like their art style, but to flat out say they suck? That's a total disrespect to the craft.

IM TELLING YOU STRAIGHT UP WHEN I SAY..THE X VISOR ON CYCLOPS IS NOT AS COOL AS HIS PHOENIX FIVE ONE...PHOENIX FIVE ONE LOOKED SO MUCH MORE BAD ASS.

MaskOfRico
MaskOfRico - 8/22/2013, 2:58 PM
Im sorry, everyones entitled to their opinion, but if you think this art sucks youre a moron, plain and simple. I am so glad that Marvel is branching out into interesting art styles, all that traditional overmuscled Jim Lee/ Joe Mad, everyone looks the same, all the girls have tiny tiny waists and huge boobs BS is embarrassing and belongs in the 90s...... People who say artists like Frazier Irving suck remind me of my 9 year old self being disappointed when Mignola filled in for Liefeld on X-Force.... I was an idiot.....

Only artists, whose art sucks without a question, is Rob Liefeld and Greg Land. Irving's work on this series is great.

@beane2099
Great list. I never really cared for McGuiness' work some years back but he's really grown. His work on Nova was awesome and I've seen some of his pre-NYCC commissions. Amazing stuff.

@0bstreperous
Without these artists you wouldn't get your comics. You wouldn't even have your avatar picture either. So respectfully, [frick] you.

@vondoom29
Yup, that's where I first became of aware of his work.

@MaskOfRico
Glad to see someone's opened their eyes. Don't get me wrong, I love Lee's and Mad's work, but there's such a variety of art styles in comics that some just fit better. Tim Sale may not be aesthetically the best artist, but try and imagine stories like Long Halloween without his work? A lot of these people that say the art sucks have no idea how much goes into it to just dismiss it like that. Now Liefeld......that's a category all it's own.

Yes Frazier Irving was on Batman and Robin when it was Richard Grayson and Damian Wayne. I love the book, art and costume on Cyclops. This is my 3rd favorite look for him.

BlindJustice
BlindJustice - 8/22/2013, 3:39 PM
I don't mind new art styles, but when the female characters all look the same in the face (check the cover shot) it gets annoying.

The new suit for Slim is...ugh. This art is almost as annoying as Rob Liefeld's...ALMOST.

My favorite obscure artist would be Mark Texeira.
duncboy

Regardless of the art, this book has been rad. I agree with those who say it though, this art style isn't a fit for this book.

I don't mind Cyclops' outfit, but dear god that art is atrocious. I can't even decipher who any of the other X-men are besides Magik. Makes me glad I'm only paying for my Valiant comics and not the garbage Marvel has turned all things X into.

@MaskOfRico

I don't have too much of a problem with the anatomy, despite it being borderline sketch-placeholder standard in some cells. "Why yes, that lopsided trapezoid is a persons torso, you can tell by the yellow x on the matt black"

What I do take issue with is the washed out, vague, watercolour mess that the inking is. Its trying too hard to borrow from impressionism and ends up just being a nonsensical mess. The style doesn't translate well to small action-packed cells, and it hasn't been impersonated well to start with.

In short, yes, art is all subjective and down to opinion, but as someone who knows about art. Its been poorly imitated, implemented and was a bad choice for the medium, so yes, technically, it is bad and for you to say that anyone who thinks that is a moron is not only arrogant, but wrong in addition to that. But thanks for your closed minded input.

Also, story looks really good, and I'm actually quite a fan of the new suit, although it has blatantly borrowed strongly from Tron, and the visor is functionally impossible (he couldn't see out of it, unless Cyclops' mutation now involved his eye placement being move, or actually having one eye). But as with a lot of people, I just couldn't get away with the art. Huge put-off for me.
