Back in early June, it was announced that the original Guardians of the Galaxy team, first introduced in 1969, would be receiving an ongoing series in October of this year. Writer Dan Abnett sat down and had a chat with the magazine WIRED in regards to the upcoming comic book series, with art provided by Gerardo Sandoval. Here's what Abnett had to say about it:

"It's set (to begin with) in 3014 and it's the classic, original Guardians," he explains. "Then some wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey stuff happens. I am dedicated to not overthrowing any continuity. This isn't a reboot or re-invention. Everything's canon. Everything a reader needs to know, be they old and familiar or new and startled, will be in the series. There will be 'Easter Eggs' for the old guard, and total explanation for the newbies."

The writer goes on into detail about reintroducing a character, a female Badoon by the name Geena Drake, from the 10 page short contained within the anniversary special issue and how she'll factor into the series with Abnett saying "she's a key character".

You can check out the full interview with the interstellar scribe at the source link below. Are you guys going to be picking up this series when it's released this October? Be sure to let us know in the comments section!

Guardians 3000 #1 is set for an October release with the team consisting of characters from the original 1969 run. The initial team will feature the Centaurian archer Yondu, the Jovian muscle-man Charlie-27, the crystalline Pluvian Martinex, the Arcturan and omnipotent Starhawk and finally, the human psychic Major Victory/Vance Astro.

Sweet. The original Guardians was some of the first comics I read as a kid. Hope they bring in that Indian looking dude with the bandana and Captain America shield. I didn't know what the [frick] was going on in those comics but it was cool. And that Tiger/Leopard dude/chick with the long black hair.

would be great to see a time travel story where the guardians of today meet up with the guardians of the year 3000 in guardians of the galaxy 2.

@WombRaider
That second image isn't from Gerardo Sandoval, the artist for the series, it's from the anniversary special.

@marvel72
Yeah, that would be great to see, especially if they bring the Time Stone into the equation as well.

I'll be checking this out. The original Guardians of the Galaxy books were a strange and interesting read. I'm glad to see they haven't been forgotten. I've been enjoying Justice League 3000 over at DC so maybe 3000 is where it's at.

That said, I'm not enthused about the art. Maybe it'll grow on me.

Art reminds me of Eddie Nunez and Joe Madureira art. With the exception that Joe Mad's art is amazing. Speaking of which, we need a damn Battle Chasers movie!!
