COMICS: DC Cancels BLUE BEETLE, GRIFTER, LEGION LOST And More In January

Four of the original "The New 52" titles are getting cancelled next January, and the question now is what will end up replacing them? Well, there's no firm word on that just yet, but you can find out more details about the cancellations after the jump.

Newsarama confirms that this January will see the final issues of Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E., Blue Beetle, Grifter, and Legion Lost hit stands. Each of these titles were first released when "The New 52" initiative was launched last September. G.I. Combat will also end in December, but is being replaced the following month with a new cosmic series from Keith Giffen called Threshold. However, these cancellations take us down to "The New 49", so what will the other titles be? We know that one is Geoff Johns and David Finch's Justice League of America, but it's unlikely that Scott Snyder and Jim Lee's Man of Steel will be ready by then. Which of these are you going to miss the most?

I can't stand the new DCU. I'm sill giving it a chance but they are destroying some iconic characters. Glad I have back issues to buy!

I bought and read the first few issues of Frankenstein, but never took to it. I'm buying it currently because of the Rotworld tie-in. The rest of the bunch I couldnt care less about.

I've pretty much given up on dc's crap books I'm saddened by how they've treated their characters. It makes me happy that the blue beetle knockoff has been cancelled so sick of dido ramming that lame power ranfer rip off down our throats
DarkGrifter

Heard about this a few days ago from Liefeld's Twitter page and I'm absolutely gutted they cancelled Grifter, it's been one of my favourites of the New 52 and I'm sad to see it get cancelled. However I'm hoping Grifter will get to play a bigger role in Team 7 now although I'm not holding my breath.
Needless to say, this fanboy is disappointed to say the least.

Blue Beetle is probably the most franchisable new DC superhero of the century, so far. So I think it is a mistake to cancel his comic. Especially since he is reaching the younger audiences through his appearances on Batman: The Brave and the Bold and Young Justice. He's DCs Spider-Man. It's a big mistake in letting that one go.
Justice League of America, huh? Is this as well as Justice League? Both by Geoff Johns? Odd.

DarkGrifter@ They fvcked the pooch on Grifter until it's ass was sore. The shitstorm on that title is entirely exemplary of the corporate shift.

Grifter is a lame 1990s invention during a time when comics were little more than a forum for lots of gun toting anti-heroes. Good riddance to his comic.

gi combat was cancelled last month so that actually only takes us to 48 with the addition of threshold. 49 with jla so that leaves three open spots.

2. Lobo
3. Gen 13
4. The Spectre

I won't miss them as I don't read them but I do read and enjoy Wonder Woman, JL, All the Superman books , Supergirl, AQuaman and GL..Bat books, lantern books and flash are for trades. Really looking forward to JLA and MOS though and I think DC need to let Shazam have his own book. I expect Hawkman to follow soon.

I liked Beetle and Legion was just startin to pick up a little. Beetle and Static were my favorite start up comics at the beginning since I already knew I would always read the rest of the main liners.

How about a comic explaining just what the [frick] actually happened with Flashpoint. Since it's been over a year, now, y'know, I'm thinking we might be owed a full explaination. Like how the entire multiverse seems to have changed and yet Earth One hasn't. Maybe bring Power Girl back? The real Power Girl. And a complete list of all the Earths in the previous multiverse and designations for the current one. We've had none of this so far and it's been over a year. I think we're owed.

DukeAcureds - 10/15/2012, 3:00 PM
Like what is the designation of the canon New 52 DC Earth? Is it still Earth 0, now it's been merged with Earths 13 and 50? Or is it 52, now and there is no more Earth 0? What's going on, DC? There are still some real geeks, out here, y'know? Reward your die-hard fanboys, guys. Just once, for old times sake, huh?

lonewolf1981@ DC is short for Detective. Common mistake. Except once I had this guy swearing to high heaven that the DC stood for Dollar Comics. True story. He said that they were so-called because that's how much they used to charge, when they first started. I'm all like, nonononononononono, they did a Dollar Comics promotional thing once, but that's not what they're called. They might've charged a buck, like in the '70s or something, but when they first came out it was like what a nickel? And he was all telling me I didn't know what the Hell I was talking about and, blah blah, blah.
Anyhoo....

This is just another example of why this "new 52" is an epic failure. You keep canceling books cause they aren't selling. They aren't selling cause no one cares about these characters. No one cares about these characters, cause they're core characters has been messed with. I'm just waiting for the day they say it was all a ploy to get new readers to get on board but then as they return to the real universe, these new readers have years of history to buy through back issues and trade paperbacks.

@Greenlantern 1417- rite then they bring about characters who are new or simply aren't as popular and people still could care less and aren't reading. It's simple, if it aint broke then dont fix it. This convo will be continued (if) the rest of the new 52 fails.
