At the begining the Ultimate universe was pretty good but then Ultimatum happened and that totally killed it hopefully this re launch especially with the better writers involved

What the hell have they done to Captain Britain? He's lost the mask and gone all emo. :P Also think it's a mistake to have the armor resemble the 616 version...having a suit so completely different really set apart the two different versions of the character.

It's clear that they're trying to make it look more like the movies. The Iron Man armoris much closer to the mvie version than the original ultimate armor. Thor looks a little bit more Hemsworth-esque.

I'm a huge Ultimates fan and collector. When I saw the cover a few weeks ago I was excited (a little too much). But the inside page art looks poop. I've disliked what they've had in Avengers vs Ultimates and this seems like the same. I'll buy but I'm a bit disappointed

@Hellsing

EXACTLY.

Ultimatium was a VERY bad idea, it wiped out a lot of potential.

The Ultimate Universe was supposed to take place in a world that was more realistic and modern. But for some reason every writer seems to think realistic and modern means making most of the characters in to selfish jerks and being as shocking as possible. And then killing off as many heros as possible. I mean I liked the Ultimate Universe when it first came out. I really like what they did with Ultimate Spider-man. But they destroyed every other hero and team. X-men(I don't like how they killed off so many characters, it just seemed random and pointless), Fantastic Four(Reed Richards goes evil? I bought the Ultimate Enemy series to figure out why he would go evil, and they never really gave a good reason. I was disappointed with the writing as a whole.)And then they started killing off the Ultimates and the AVengers.

I agree with imnotwearinghockeypants. Can someone explain to the rest of us that are not in the know what is going on here. Iron Man is called out, Capt Britain lands with a couple of dudes I don't know, walks in on a sickly Odin slamming the ale, Britain points his finger, looks back unsure of himself, Thor hits him missiles are let off, Iron Man is in the middle of the speeding missiles....what the heck?

TrueBlue: You're correct. The original purpose of the ultimate universe was to attract new readers and kids by presenting slightly different versions of familiar characters, who weren't burdened with forty years of continuity. Ultimate Spidey did just this, and was an enjoyable twist on a beloved character for a long time. This changed after they started the numbering over again several years ago. That book lost its likability.

You are absolutely right that writers quickly interpreted this mandate for twists to familiar characters to mean turning the characters into a sorry bunch of depraved and debaucherous douchebags. The whole line except for Ultimate Spidey was quickly unsuitable for children and a horrible way to introduce new readers to some of comics' greatest characters.

The thing I find most annoying here is that Marvel makes very few kid-friendly titles anymore. The whole line of comics used to be suitable for all ages to read. You don't get the kids reading, where do tomorrow's comic readers come from? Do any of you want to see comic cons become like so many other collectables' cons are, just another gathering of old guys? I sure don't. I want kids today and in the future to find the same fascinating and special universes I discovered when I was young, and to see new young creators bringing a fresh take on familiar characters to keep them alive forever.

Ultimate line was good, it wasca chance for creators to go wild with existing characters, but

as it drew out it was kinda bland and the "re imagining" was not that fresh I mean all they did

was make the origins in 2000 as a posed to 60's70's. And the resent death of ultimate spider

man was so bland, I read it and I was like thats it? could have cared less if he died, there

was no emotion. Just hope this is as good as year one of the ultimate line.

LOL @ the people trying to turn every Marvel or DC article into a Marvel vs DC debate...

This looks interesting. Definitely looks better than that crappy Jeph Loeb Ultimates 3.

Well said, The movies should attract new younger readers but if the movies are done sub-par we have no hope.

LOL @ the people trying to point out other people as being DC or Marvel. This looks interesting just like a piece of foil reflecting light off of it in the midday sun. Its shiny and looks good from a distance until you realize it is not what you thought it was and you are sad when you realize all you were in Marvel of was garbage.

Still, can anyone tell me what is happening in these images...is it over my head because I can stretch the ol' plastic head way up high and still have it over my head on these few pages. Confusion, me too!

So does this also fall into the continuity of the ultimate Thor miniseries the did a while back ?

Please bring back Iron Man's Ultimate armor. I loved that suit. Having him wear what is essentially the movie suit does not do enough to differentiate him from the 616 version.
SoulAllFlush
SoulAllFlush - 6/27/2011, 2:31 PM
Oh well, after I read Death of Spiderman it looks like I can give up completely on the Ultimate comics.

Absolutely no point in copying the movie - for no reason other than the movies should take their cue from 616. Ultimate line should follow it's own path.

Ultimatum was poor in parts, but it was very different. Killing off characters and removing the means to bring them back. That was bold. Copying the films is not bold.
