COMICS: IRON MAN Gets New Battle Suit, Stealth Armor And More In Marvel NOW!

As well as concept art of two new Iron Man suits ('Battle' and 'Stealth'), we have a first look at the covers of issues #3 and #4 of writer Kieron Gillen (Journey Into Mystery) and Greg Land's (Uncanny X-Men) Marvel NOW! Iron Man series.

Well, I think it's fair to say that Tony Stark is in VERY capable hands with the creative team of Kieron Gillen and Greg Land. As you can see, they're delivering on the promise of plenty showing off the Avenger's technical capabilities as the third and fourth issues of the new Marvel NOW! Iron Man series will see the debut of a battle suit and redesigned stealth armour. Below you'll find concept art and the covers for the relevant issues, while Gillen also shares his thoughts on these designs. Which of these do you like the most?

"In the first and second issues, we go and see the modular nature of the suit. The ultra-high tech joust of the second issue is especially a showcase for the 'Ooh, I think I'll have that arm, with the fancy UV Laser' style of storytelling. But sometimes you can't just fiddle with the details. Sometimes you have to commit to a problem, and that's what the suits in issues three and four are showcasing."

"The stealth suit [is] shown here in tasteful black, though its chameleonic tendencies can move that in any direction he wants. It maxes out its light-bender, includes lots of holograms, lots of hacking and still keeps a little repulsor and strength if needed. Also, it looks great. [Issue #4] showcases the sort of suit which starts where War Machine leaves off. Frankly, if I was asked to re-launch Power Pack, I'd somehow manage to work a mini-gun in there, so it's no surprise that there's some manner of Gatling device attached to this genuinely brutal piece of machinery."

I am digging this. I have not found a comic that I wanted to pick up for awhile because of all the underlying stories from past events. With Marvel Now I think I might start picking up some of these titles.

I'm pretty sure that is what the boys in Marketing at Marvel wanted to happen. Way to read my mind. Or did they use the now dead Prof X to do that?

I like the stealth armor shown in the concept art. Taking out the mouth piece and the plated look of the armor is a unique look.

I like the smoother concept art a lot better than Land's art. Land makes the stealth armor look clunky. He looks like he is taking the movie version and putting the lines on the stealth suit from the concept drawing. Makes you wonder if Land designed the stealth suit or someone else did.
The war machine 3.0 design looks good, but the black gold look doesn't look good on it.
