COMICS: Marvel Finally Unveils Jeff Lindsay's DEXTER Series

Originally announced at last year's San Diego Comic Con, Jeff Lindsay's comic book adaptation of Dexter (set in the same universe as his novels rather than the Showtime television series) will finally hit stands next February. Hit the jump to check out artwork and details!

Thanks to USA Today, we have a first look at Jeff Lindsay's five-issue Dexter miniseries. The comic book won't be based on the hit Showtime series which stars Michael C. Hall as the titular serial killer, instead taking inspiration from Lindsay's novels (the first season of the show was based quite closely on Darkly Dreaming Dexter). "Marvel Comics has always been a place where I felt at home," the writer told the site earlier today. "It has been a very important part of my life, and has always been a wellspring of creative and relevant ideas. I feel like I'm coming home. It is a huge thrill for me to bring Dexter into this very special pantheon."

The series (which features artwork from Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe's Dalibor Talajic) "introduces the "Skid Row Slasher" into the Dexter mythology as a rookie serial killer hounding Miami's finest, but before he takes him on, Dexter has to deal with something even more frightening: his high school reunion." Issue #1 of Dexter launches next February.

Notice that the article states that it is based on the novels and not the show.

I am a Dexter fan-atic. It's my favorite show. So I picked up a copy of the first novel, and I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but the Dexter from the show and the Dexter from the novels are soooo so different.

None of the things that we love about the titular character from the show are present in the book.
In the show they constantly fudge on what a psychopath is like to make Dex more likeable.

But Lindsay's Dexter is consistently more "textbook".

Utterly sick and evil.. In the show Dexter never tortures his victims. In the book Dexter always does. He loves it. He loves the agony, screams, etc.. The Dexter from the show needs to kill, but the killing, and watching the blood flow is really all he's after.

In the show Dexter not only makes an effort to try and appear normal, but he can actually function "normally" at times. In the book Dexter knows every second of his life that he's just playing everybody to avoid getting caught so he can keep indulging in his illness. he cruelly enjoys the skillful way he manipulates to get what he wants. In the show dex is just does it to get by.

In the book he constantly ruminates about he feels nothing for anyone. In the show Dexter struggles with it, but in fact has a very deep love for a lot of people.

The book Dexter is just not as fun or as human.

Meh. Never could get into the show. Dexter and his killings were awesome but I tried really hard to give two fricks about any of the other characters and couldn't. His sister was okay but other than that meh.

mrcool210 he's not supposed to looke like Michael C Hall, it's based on the books...

I'm not sure how I feel about this, this is the only franchise where I've preferred the show to the books. The first book is great but after that it just gets bizarre and ludicrous, Dexter might have a different personality in the show but at least it's grounded in reality.

I really like the idea of a Dexter comic series. but I do not think the cover looks at all like Dexter. For me to totally enjoy this series, I need the artist to make Dexter look like Michael C. Hall.

I hope they make this into an ongoing series now that this season is over and next season is the last one
