COMICS: Preview Nick Spencer's ANT-MAN #1

Ahead of Marvel Studios' July release of Ant-Man, starring Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, Marvel Comics is launching an all new Scott Lang-centric Ant-Man ongoing this January from writer Nick Spencer and artist Ramon Rosanas.

The tone and humor for Nick Spencer's Ant-Man #1 definately reminds me of the tone and humor of Matt Fraction's Hawkeye run.  Can Spencer and artist Ramon Rosanas strike a similar chord with fans?  Ant-Man #1, starring Scott Lang, ships to local comic book stores on Wednesday, January 7, 2015.

Scott Lang has never exactly been the world's best super hero. Heck, most people don't even think he's been the best ANT-MAN -- and the last guy invented Ultron and joined the Masters of Evil, so that's saying something.  But when the SUPERIOR IRON MAN calls with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, Scott's going to get a chance to turn it all around and be the hero he's always dreamed of being.  Sure he's been to prison! Sure he's been through a messy divorce! Sure he's been, um... dead. But this time is different! This time nothing is gonna stop the astonishing ANT-MAN!

Written by: Nick Spencer
Art by: Ramon Rosanas
Colors by: Jordan Boyd

Stark had BETTER be into "second chances" or else the Hulk would have justified in punching his face through his asshole during World War Hulk.

This is exactly the kind of tone and direction Ant-Man needs. Make Scott Lang the reformed thief who starts or runs a security firm that shows the flaws in company's security by breaking into the, like the Robert Redford movie SNEAKERS. I can't wait to read this issue!

I will put this on to my reading list, I have a feeling Deathlok is going to end sooner that I hoped, which is really a shame.

Nice, I doubt it, but it makes me wonder if Stark will show up in Ant-Man, I'm sure he'll at least be referenced

Somehow this article headline isn't "Ant-Man trailer to debut Monday, January 12th during the National Championship Game on ESPN (owned by Disney)"???

But, damn, this is the second article where pages of the issue are released; a lot of stuff revealed.

@MarkJulian

I think the eighth cover is hinting at an Ant-Man trailer on the 12th.

Wait that message is really cryptic, it doesn't say a trailer just that he is in... That could mean lots of things but cross my finger for a trailer. Been waiting sense Thor for a Ant-man and a Dr.Strange movie.

Mhm... and it'll tank hard like any other story that featured Lang. There's a good reason they killed him off. He should have stayed dead. Now he's just Redundant Man.
(I am glad to see Cassie back though. She's twice the hero her father ever was.)

Is this set pre-evil-Stark or post-evil-Stark?

@astromerc

Actually I'm a pretty good artist Thank you :-)

The art isn't 'great', maybe awful was harsh as there is a lot worse out there in Marvel right now (did you read Ultimate FF? yuck!)but this drawing is average at best.

As professional artists your implication that they should be better than amateurs is correct and I just think this is overly simple.

of course this is not helped by the awful (yes awful is accurate this time) job done on the colours. such a waste of the verstility of modern printing opportunities.

The group shot of the past teams in particular is a failing on both fronts- not only doES Antman look like he is wearing a onesie, the other characters look like they are out of a child's colouring book.

You may also be right in your implication that perhaps I am bitter that he is a professional artist and I am not. true writing and/or drawing comics would be my dream job. I feel i am justified in being jealous when I see someone doing a poor job at my dream job, just as if an amateur cook went to a restaurant and became mad after eating food that was not as good as what they make at home.

In short please do not insult me for expressing my opinion, it is what the comment section is for. i respect your opinion that art is 'great' but would invite you to have a look around at some other art (amateur and professional) and compare it before you do.

All the best.
