COMICS: The Human Torch Joins The Secret Avengers?

During an interview with Marvel, Rick Reminder talks about the upcoming Secret Avengers along with the release of a new promo art. New faces join the team, but but isn't The Human Torch Dead?

Over the weekend, Marvel announced the new creative team and shared a promotional piece by drawn by Art Adams (the book’s cover artist, according to the Marvel feature). It showed new team member Captain Britain, the team’s new leader, Hawkeye, as well as Hank Pym and other current members of the team. Hank Pym doesn’t appear on the promo art from Marvel’s site, but Venom and the Human Torch do. Or a Human Torch, anyway; whether it’s a resurrected Johnny Storm, the WWII-era Torch he took his name from or, heck, even Toro is anybody’s guess at this point. But Marvel has teased the return of the Johnny Storm Human Torch already, so he seems like the likely suspect.

The inclusion of The Human Torch is very interesting. While it's speculated that it can be either the WWII era or Johnny Storm, I feel it can be Johnny. Let's face, heroes don't stay dead. The possible route I'm thinking is that Johnny being alive is kept only to the team. What are your thoughts? Read the piece entirely on ComicBookResources.com. This is Mareado and thank you for having salsa with me.

that secret avengers line up is pretty cool,i don't think that's the original human torch became the vision.

it could be the fantastic four's human torch because the thing is a member of the new avengers,so why can't the human torch be a member of the secret avengers.

Does anyone else think that's a very bad place for Ant-Man to be standing? If Black Widow had beans yesterday he's done for.

Captain Britain kicks ass, and Flash/Venom is badass as well, this will be awesome. I haven't really liked Secret Avengers since Nova left, hope this is better. And if they left Johnny dead that would be a lot better for Marvel Comics' rep for resurrecting people.

@Mareado

Yep, it's pretty damn good. He even tangled with Anti-Venom in his last issue. It was pretty cool.

@ mareado & alcoholica

venom & the uncanny x-force are the best two marvel comics at the moment,also i was gutted when nova left the secret avengers maybe when he returns he may join the defenders,he'd fit in that team quite nicely.

I find it less likely it Johnny, at least from this art. I haven't seen art with closeup of his face, but Toro and Jim Hammond had featureless faces in flame-on mode. Johnny's face could always be seen. That's just my observation. Not ruling Johnny out entirely though.

While that line-up does nothing for me as it is as far from a traditional Avengers line-up as you can get (which seems to be the fad these days), I would be glad to see the orginal Human Torch used in a monthly again. It has been one of my biggest bitches with Marvel over these many years that they have for decades shown almost zero respect for their "Superman" as it were. People forget that the Torch and Submariner (along with some b level characters) were Marvels first superhero's. The torch was on the cover of Marvel Mystery Comics #1 for cryin out loud, and since Stan went with a new torch in Fantastic Four #1 the original has been basically for the most part $hit on for much of his existance since then. He's been destroyed, disassembled, disembowled, and a host of other nasty things over and over again. I for one wouldn't mind seeing him finally given the respect Marvels FIRST SUPERHRO EVER should get. Wouldn't even mind seing an Invaders monthly with him Toro, Cap, Bucky (not dead), and Submariner.
