Manipulated at the hands of Butler and his brutal offshoot of the Weapon Plus program, Wade Wilson was transformed into an indestructible killing machine against his will. But there is more to the story. Before being fully indoctrinated by Butler for good, all ties to Wade’s past had to be severed. And the secrets of that day have remained unknown to this day – even to Deadpool himself.

Now, thanks to the energies of The Watcher’s all-seeing eyes, S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents Adsit and Preston have uncovered the terrible truths about Deadpool’s family. Should they tell him? Or is the truth the final straw that could very well unravel Wade’s fragile psyche!

“Gerry Duggan and Brian Posehn have struck a perfect balance in their run on Deadpool,” says editor, Jordan D. White. “They know how to bring the funny, but they’ve also been able to reveal the horrific trauma twinkie that lies just beneath Deadpool’s deep-fried batter exterior. To mix disgusting body metaphors in with that food metaphor, the particular scab that they’re peeling off with this story is covering a wound Wade doesn’t even know he suffered…and one that might just be too much for him to handle.”

What untold horrors lay in Deadpool’s past? And what will happen if they come to light? The horrific truth about Deadpool’s family and their gruesome fate stand revealed this May in DEADPOOL #29!

Some characters are better without fully-developed back stories, like the Joker. Characters like Wolverine and Gambit lost their intrigue after their back stories were given.

"Mysterious" and "stalker" are not synonymous just because you wear a ski mask.

Deadpool's past is just as messed up as his mind. Things about his past have been brought up so many times that you can't tell if it's true or not.

Dp's origin has been recanted so many times my head spins. I love the character but every time they bring up his origin(pre weapon x), be prepared for some more inconsistencies, reconts, and continuity errors. It changed twice in his first run. Twice in c & dp and one more time during ways run. Marvel just leave it alone please.

Gusto is above the law, but only in Taiwan. Those young ladies can't get enough of him.

That was the first "reveal". But later in the same volume he reconts that story, on the t-ray rematch.

No Marvel... Why?!? Not every character needs a definitive origin. I like Deadpool the way he is, he has no idea about his past and that is best. Don't care what Marvel says I will not count this as Deadpool's backstory, he shall forever be mysterious to me.

Deadpool's origin is a lot like Joker's origin. Depends what time of day you ask him and which of his kind bubbles is talking to him. Deadpool doesn't know and the only ones ever claimng to know are just as badly screwed up as he is.

@fortycals

Its been a long time since I read that run (Jesus, remember when he was drawn THAT HUGE), but I'm pretty sure that first 'retcon' was actually deliberate. From what I remember it was part of the story behind him and tray, tray was trying to screw with him and swapped their histories or something. I'll have to dig it out.

Granted you could say it was a retcon, but I'm fairly certain that it was actually intended the way it was presented. I could be entirely wrong and giving them far too much faith, but I don't think, in this instance, that I am.

Its been a while for me too, but there were like four different writers inbetween the initial reveal, and the recont. I remember interviews with some of the writers that said, the best thing about writting dp was, you could do anything you wanted with the character because the editors never paid attention to the book. If I remember correctly he even breaks the 4th wall to clown the original writers faux pas. Like how in trays story, he was wearing the dp costume when he supposedly stole trays identity, but dp didnt pick up the costume until after weapon x.

This makes me want to dig in the boxes again, but last time I tried to make some kind of since of his pre weapon x days, I left a forehead shaped dent in my desk. Just like the who killed his dad debacle. First it was implied that he did it, then stated that his friend did it, then stated that he caused it. Dont even get me started on his nationality. Straight up canadian, american parents but raised in canada, or dual citizenship? All have been used or implied before, though most people just stick with canadian. Even those utopia ads in the books a couple of years ago put a question mark behind the canadian nationality.

Come on guys, its not an origin story. It's a family drama. And DP has so many stories that are just in his head. I'm sure his wife wants to know about her in-laws. The Watcher's murder will open some eyes. Pun intended.

His adoptive daddy was actually Gusto Warbucks. But when he got to old, Gusto lost interest in him and sold him off to Wenches 'N Things where he was later bought by Weapon Plus.

I think that it's cool that Deadpool is such a part of this story. Think about it; if YOU were the Watcher, who would be more fun to watch than Deadpool?

@dethpillow
That is kinda how I have always looked at it. Anything that came directly from his mouth is suspect, because of his mental state. It still leaves a lot of inconsistencies, but it helps me cope. I used to want a definitive version but at this point I really don't care. In my mind everything pre weapon x, will just be a mystery, because every time they touch it they screw it up more. Him being a merc pre weapon x is enough for me at this point.
