Below is an excerpt from the exclusiver report over at Latino Review. To read the story in its entirety and to hear more from the director, make sure to head on over to the site by clicking below. This was Gunn's response to being asked whether he has any interest in directing a mainstream superhero movie, and for Marvel Studios in particular.

"Yeah, I mean there's a lot of things that I would like to do and I've even talked to people about it. I've had discussions with Marvel, even from the beginning of the career. I remember being offered to write 'Fantastic Four' ten years ago or some that I didn't do. If something inspired me I would.

"A lot of things I'm attracted to may not be may not be the most popular superheroes in the world and so it's just a matter of finding the right project. But I would do it if it was something that inspired me. You never know, some morning I could wake up with an idea in my head for anything and it could be a western, a comedy, a superhero movie, a melodrama and that's what will take me over for that day.

"I don't think my next movie is going to be an ultra-low budget movie like 'Super,' but I don't think -- I love doing it, I'm happy I did it, but if I do it again for another year I think it might kill me. So I think I'm going to do something with a little bit of a bigger budget, more of an entertaining pop-show and that's what I plan on doing next."

Can you think of a character that you'd like to see Gunn helm? With Super set to be released on April 1st, I guess we can find out then who he might be best suited to! Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place.

it's not Marvel Studios he's talking about it's Fox and Marvel Entertainment... I think Deadpool would be a good guess...

@Darkmatter in the quotes that Josh posted Gunn never mentions "Marvel Studios" so the headline is misleading... he does however mention Fantastic Four which is at Fox... Marvel is still involved with the Fox films it's just under the Marvel Entertainment banner...

I doubt Fox will mess up Deadpool with the amazing script they have.. they were in talks with Robert Rodriguez who had been my choice since the beginning...they could be waiting on him or finding someone to make the right movie for Ryan... if they scrap the script, replace Ryan and make it PG-13 then we can start bashing Fox..

Even LatinoReview goes into a Deadpool rant

@Darkmatter unlikely if The Wolverine is hold until 2012 they need a comic book movie for 2012 and Daredevil doesn't even have script..if Wolverine doesn't move forward expect Deadpool next..

personally I'd hope that Fox would hire Matt Reeves and keep production moving this summer.. but things could change if they can't get a director that Hugh Jackman wants

@Darkmatter he's not tied up for Green Lantern 2 because it hasn't be greenlit yet...his late summer/fall is open at this point... don't start assuming something because you've been burned before...

Fox has made some awesome/risky choices lately with Matthew Vaughn, David Slade, Robert Rodriguez and Darren (before they jumped ship)...Fox gave Robert total control of their Predator franchise for Predators..

so do you think they'd care so much about Deadpool? he's not even an X-Men... Wolverine and their X-Men franchise they'll try to keep kid friendly... Deadpool is more in the Zombieland/Your Highness genre and likely will be a $70-80 million dollar R-rated action comedy... Fox can take risks on a film with a budget under $100 million

@Darkmatter lots of people feel burned by Fox when they made Daredevil, Fantastic Four, X3 and X-Men Origins: Wolverine... figured it's the main reason people feel it's their place to blame a whole studio for bad films that were ruined by a few suits...

I'm sure there will be revisions but Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds entire script was leaked before it's production.. it was still made and the studio didn't freak out... the gory violence and gun play linked with Deadpool automatically deems an R-rated rating... Wolverine is linked to the X-Men franchise which is PG-13 they can't go off and make it R-rated..would love it to be but they're aiming their main X-Men films to children not older teens and adults...

Daredevil on the other hand would be a great R-rated character...

They wont make Deadpool rated R. End of Story.

@ChristopherM

Not really few suits, mostly just one. Read up on Tom Rothman, he was head of fox studios when all those movies were made, and is more responsible for X3 than Brett Ratner.

If he's still running the show at fox, I wouldn't expect to see an R Rated deadpool movie anytime soon.
