Right on the eve of the character's 60th anniversary, Iron Man will begin a new era this December. Writer Gerry Duggan (X-Men) and artist Juan Frigeri (Avengers) will kick off a new run of the Armoured Avenger's flagship solo title that will bring Tony Stark to his darkest depths only to rise greater than ever before.

Invincible Iron Man is set to follow Christopher Cantwell’s thought-provoking run on the title that concludes in November’s Iron Man #750, the upcoming milestone issue that will give fans their first glimpse of what’s to come in this new chapter.

The ongoing series will begin with Tony reflecting on the highs and lows of his 60 years of history, including digging up some classic armors and confronting old wounds, to overcome a devastating defeat at the hands of a Marvel villain who’s been making big waves throughout the Marvel Universe recently.

It all ends here? Tony Stark, the genius-billionaire-playboy-philanthropist, has lost it all: his wealth...his fame...his friends. But Stark doesn’t realize he still has so much more to lose, especially when a mystery villain puts out a hit on him! Every assassin around the Marvel Universe has come out of the shadows for Tony - and he has no idea who hired them!

Will this cavalcade of killers close the book on Iron Man? It’s the beginning of the end, as the Golden Avenger must fight for his life and find out what it really means to hit rock bottom.

"It's my privilege to try and follow Christopher Cantwell and his collaborators' stellar run on IRON MAN heading into an anniversary year," Duggan said. "Juan and I are going to introduce a new menace that is gunning for Tony Stark and his greatest creation. We have an epic tale for Stark and plans for old foes, including flashbacks to some of his classic armors. How about a little Silver Centurion for his diamond anniversary? Armor up, you're gonna need it."

Wow. You mean marvel is finally giving us an interesting story that respects the legacy, instead of identity politics shoved down our throat?

@Origame - Or hear me out. Those stories where you feel like identity politics shoved down your throat are not permanent runs and you could have completely ignored them?

@SonOfAGif - dude, they ended up as the norm of the industry for years now. And yes, we can ignore them. And we did. Hence the American comic industry falling apart.

@Origame - because 5 years of something different compares to the near 60+ year history of these characters existing

@ShimmyShimmyYA - ...and those 5 years of "something different" basically bankrupt the entire industry.

@Origame - you sure? Nothing to do with the 2 decades prior of waning interest in comics especially post the scalper boom of the 80s/90s mixed with other forms of entertainment gaining market edges over reading in general across the board of all forms?

It was 5 years of something different lol

@ShimmyShimmyYA - dude, that 5 years was also prime interest in the marvel universe thanks to the mcu. Characters who were previously obscure like ant man were suddenly household names. And the theory culture surrounding the mcu was also massive, meaning there would be more interest in the books just to figure out what's going on in the movies. The comics should be exploding in popularity.

On top of that, we have rereleases outselling new titles, and Manga dominating the industry. How do you justify that? What about king spawn as well, which is very much in line with the 90s you talked about, is pretty much doing exactly what it's been doing, and is also crushing it in terms of sales?

On top of that you have writers on the new stuff openly saying "don't like my politics, don't buy my book". Are you honestly telling me none of this is saying anything to you?

I dug Cantwell’s Tom King-esque run on Iron Man and I enjoyed Duggan’s post Hickman run on X-men, and the art by Frigeri will be top notch as his work on the later part of Ewing’s GOTG run was fantastic. Will be adding this to my pull list for sure.

Hopefully Duggan brings back The Mandarin, while he's at it he should bring back Justin Hammer, Obadiah Stane, and Anton Vanko.

This looks cool, but it always makes me laugh when they say things like “risking more than ever before”, etc.

60 years is a long ass time, and it’s easy to forget that these comic series have lasted longer than a franchise ever could in almost any other medium. Makes me wonder how long it’ll all last

No Ironheart comic, result. The last Iron Man series was pretty bad, it had Iron Man recruiting a team of villains that wouldn't stand a chance against Korvac.

Want to read a great story involving Korvac.
