Marvel Character Set To Appear Alongside Nathan Fillion In Castle!

Marvel and ABC have already teamed up for a comic book adaptation of the hit ABC show, but it has today been revealed that a Marvel Comics character will make an appearance next season! Hit the jump for more...

IGN TV report that the ABC portion of the 'Television Critics Association' saw the networks president Paul Lee reveal that a Marvel comic book character will be turning up in the next season of Castle, starting actor Nathan Fillion.

"You know, I don't know if I'm allowed to say it, but we've got a really cool storyline with a Marvel character that appears on Castle this year. If you guys haven't seen the finale for Castle from this past season, it's extraordinary. [Castle creator] Andrew Marlow is really hitting his stride. And that was an underrated show that really found its momentum. And there's one episode, and I'm probably giving away a secret and I shouldn't because Andrew is going to kill me, with a Marvel superhero character. Andrew is so smart. He's always thinking ahead. He's got an amazing Halloween episode, so I think I give Andrew all the credit – although the Marvel guys are superb."

Of course, Castle is a show set firmly in the "real" world, so I doubt we'll be seeing the Hulk or Captain America paying a visit. While it's most likely that this appearance will be a regular person in a fancy dress costume, it IS possible it could be an actual comic book character. With ABC developing A.K.A. Jessica Jones, might we see the private detective make a cameo appearance? I certainly wouldn't rule it out! Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!

Fillion was quite funny and cool in Super, which was a brilliant and overlooked film!!!

I wish that they'd have Jessica Jones make an appearance, but it's probably just something like Castle dressed as Cap or something.

Oh and yah it could be just a "costume" cameo I suppose as Nathan dressed as a "space-cowboy" once, hint-hint ;]

If it's the Halloween episode I would not be surprised in the least to see Fillion dressed as Ant-Man. They revelled in in-jokes last Halloween, with nearly every cast member dressed as a former role each actor had played in a previous project, including Fillion in full Firefly/Serenity garb.

Or it could be an actual Marvel character... It wouldn't be the first time characters from wildly different kinds of shows have crossed over. I could easily see Agent Coulsin make an appearance... I think I even recall an episode of Castle that had a government agent that never identified what agency he worked for.

@Chewtoy I guess I've only seen one Halloween special do you remember the others? Could be right about Coulsin and unknown agency, that would be soooo cool.

@ mpk1988 that would also be cool!!

Oh I can see it now... while on the case of massacre of gangsters rapists and serial killers, Castle and the gang follow the clues and find the most likely, yet most shocking suspect: Rick Castle's long lost Marine brother Franklin, who has become known as the Punisher!!! Wishing to prove his innocence in this case and bring the REAL perp to justice (his style of course) Franklin and Rick must set aside their family issues and find the gangster killer before it causes a full scale gang war.

And THAT is why I am a writer.

Agent Coulson would be flippin' awesome.

Don't really see the Dread Dormammu showing up to give Castle problems.

@Lokibegoodstick: Looking over the episode list, it seems they've only done 1 Halloween themed episode so far. The first season began as a mid-season replacement, premiering in the Spring, the second season featured the Halloween episode, and then the third season had a regular episode Halloween week.

It was last November where Lyle Lovett played a Man in Black in the investigation of the mysterious death of an astrophysicist. He showed up unexpectedly, never identified which agency he worked for, but had a lot of government pull and access/knowledge of some pretty advanced tech. They could suggest in hindsight that he was a SHIELD agent as easily as MIB, or simply play the same kind of thing with Agent Coulson.

And for people who think it's outlandish to tie Castle to the Marvel Universe, I always go back to Richard Belzer's character Det. Munch, who has been a part of or guest starred on just about every show imaginable, from gritty cop shows like Homicide, Law & Order, and The Wire, to stuff like The X-files and Arrested Development.

So yes, there are episodes that link the gritty realism of The Wire to the X-file's Flukeman, putting them all in the same reality if you care to be picky about continuity.

Not much of a hit if it canceled...
Chewtoy
Chewtoy - 8/7/2011, 4:19 PM
@Jimdlux:

Are you seriously trying to start a rumor that the show was somehow cancelled inbetween seasons under an article where the President of ABC Network itself is talking about how excited he is with this upcoming season and the Marvel cameo it contains?

Lokibegoodstick - 8/7/2011, 4:38 PM
@Chewtoy Thanks, I see what you meant, now that I think about it I've never seen the Halloween Episode all the way through just the beginning where he puts on the old brown coat and boots. Haven't seen the episode with Lyle Lovett either, guess I need to watch more.
