Marvel Comics is celebrating the 10th anniversary of Miles Morales, and that means the web-slinger is getting a new costume in Miles Morales: Spider-Man #30. His black and red suit has become iconic in recent years, so this change is a bold move on the publisher's part (though it is at least a little similar to the "Crimson Cowl" suit in the Spider-Man: Miles Morales video game).
The change feels a lot like a deliberate move on Marvel's part with Ben Reilly's return in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man, as Miles now looks more like Scarlet Spider than his usual self.
"This is it, ten years as Spider-Man and his future has never looked brighter," reads Miles Morales: Spider-Man's solicitation text. "A who's who of Miles Morales Spider-Creators has been webbed together to make this the best Anniversary Special of all time!"
"Saladin Ahmed and Carmen Carnero show off Miles' new suit (designed by Chase Conley) and kick off his eleventh year (and biggest one yet)," it continues. "And the creative minds behind the Miles movies Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and two-time Oscar nominee Kemp Powers celebrate Miles' birthday in style with Miles co-creator Sara Pichelli."
How long this change will last remains to be seen, but it will ultimately hinge on how fans respond to the hero's overhauled appearance. When the costume was first revealed, the reaction was mixed, but we've yet to learn of any storyline reason for Miles' new look in the comic books.
