Hey all, coming to a close of my Marvel Universe series. Got 1 (Maybe 2) More to go. Today we talk about the other “Teams” in the Marvel Universe. These teams are partially made up of the same characters in the Avengers but perhaps we can see some love to these great tier 2 teams as well.
Defenders
Without a doubt, if any other earth team besides the Avengers is going to get a film, it’s probably going to be the defenders. The defenders have been put together usually as more of a high powered team to take down threats of magical or cosmic power. They fight the Undying ones, the wrecking crew, and many others. The team is mainly build of the Hulk, Silver Surfer, Dr Strange, and Namor. However others have joined like Black Cat, Ant-Man, Iron Fist, or She-hulk. The defenders have been given a lot of fan love for a movie. Lost really would want to see them on screen as would I. However the chances are very slim in my opinion. Think about it, only 2 or 3 of these characters aren’t in the Avengers. If they want to show these teams they will probably just be in the Avengers. Sadly I think this will always be their Achilles heel in chances of a film. But it would be a great one to see them on screen some time. Perhaps in future Avengers films these few characters could be a sub team called the defenders, but alas that’s just hope.
Invaders
The Invaders are most known for their time in WWII. They joined up to help win the war against the Nazi’s and were led by Captain America, Namor, and the original Human Torch. There have been a lot more characters joining them, Bucky, US Agent, Vision, Bucky, and so on. They have also made a new Invaders story line showing more modern day version of this team. Again I must say all chances of this team making a film are slim. Since they were pretty much only in the 40s which were already covered in Captain America, we probably won’t see another flashback movie to show them. This team has a lot less Avengers in it but lots of these characters have been made on film already. To bad there wasn’t a nod to them in the first Cap film but oh well. Invaders are a great past group of heroes, they brought a lot to the WWII table back in the day.
West Coast Avengers
Hawkeye lead the Avengers to split up in order to cover more of the world with the suggestion from vision. Hawkeye recruited Rhodes, Wonder Man, Tigra, and Mockingbird. They have battled lots of villains, Graviton, Ultron, Grim Reaper, so on. They have been joined by a few Avengers from time to time such as Ant-Man, Spider-Woman and so on. This team probably won’t be seen on screen. The only way I could see them is in an Avengers team, but just asked to cover the West Coast while the regular avengers guard the East. However a lot more characters are needed to be introduced before that could happen such as Wonder Man and Tigra at least. Hawkeye and Rhodes aren’t enough to create a team just yet.
All in all the chances of other teams are again slim. The Avengers are such a large portion of the universe its hard to split off and still do the Avengers justice. Will we seem anyone else any time soon? Probably not but I sure hope so.
