CONSTANTINE: HBO Max TV Series May Have Found Its Lead In GANGS OF LONDON Star Ṣọpẹ Dìrísù

We've been wondering who will play John Constantine in the planned HBO Max TV series for a while now, and a new report suggests Warner Bros. is zeroing in on its Hellblazer. Read on for details...

With Warner Bros. looking to reboot Constantine for HBO Max, Legends of Tomorrow star Matt Ryan has been forced to take on another role in The CW series. Fans will get to hear him play the character in the upcoming animated short Constantine: The House of Mystery, of course, but it appears his time as the chainsmoking demonologist has ended to make way for a new Hellblazer.

The Illuminerdi is reporting that the streaming service is currently eyeing Ṣọpẹ Dìrísù (Gangs of London) to take on the title role in the series that comes from UK author Guy Bolton and executive producer J.J. Abrams. The British Nigerian actor put himself on the map with an unmissable performance in Netflix's horror movie His House, and Dìrísù would no doubt bring a lot to this DC role.

A recent longline revealed that, "The series blends urban action, body horror, and the supernatural on the streets of modern-day London. It follows a young man whose entire world is upended when a chance encounter with a young girl pulls him into the dark and treacherous world of the occult."

With Warner Bros. looking to expand its DC offerings on HBO Max, it looks like Constantine will be one of several projects that are building to a Justice League Dark movie. Remember, Emerald Fennell is developing a Zatanna movie and Angela Robinson is hard at work on a Madame X series. Hopefully, the likes of Swamp-Thing and Deadman aren't too far behind as this idea does have potential.

Fans have mixed feelings on Abrams seemingly overseeing this part of the DC Extended Universe after his divisive contributions to the Star Trek and Star Wars franchises, but we'll see how this pans out.

Are you on board with Dìrísù potentially playing John Constantine?

@IronMan616 - lol funny. But in case you weren't joking and were serious....
It doesn't matter what background Constantine has. For Putin however it does

I'm hoping you can see the difference!

@IronMan616 - I mean… I know this comment is just poking fun, but race swapping a real life figure from their natural ethnicity and changing a fictional character from theirs - are two very different things.

@Se4M4NSt4ine - It's certainly different on a certain level, especially if you're filming a serious biopic. But if a movie is telling an alternative history story or just poking fun and not aiming for realism, it becomes less significant. As long as the movie itself is good, I give it less importance.
That said however, I personally prefer characters, real or fictional, to remain as close to their most well known physical appearance as possible, as long as there are no story reasons to change them.

@Fogs - I loved GOT for the first 6 seasons.
I won't let 2 seasons ran by misguided exhausted showrunners ruin my enjoyment of the series as a whole

@Vigor - Nice thinking.

But I can't.

@Fogs - first 6 seasons of Game of Thrones is still some of the greatest television ever produced.

@Fogs - I hope I live long enough to see a Game Of Thrones remake in my lifetime. Perhaps the books will be done by then.

Sometimes I catch scenes from the older seasons on YouTube and I get a bittersweet feeling as I remember what was and what could have been.
