DC Studios Boss James Gunn Suggests We'll Be Waiting A While For Any Sort Of DCU Slate Announcement

DC Studios CEO James Gunn has commented on the possibility of a DCU slate announcement, making it clear that he and Peter Safran have only just started the job (meaning we'll be waiting a while for one).

There's a huge amount of excitement to see what DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran have in store for the DCU. For years, the franchise has been somewhat directionless, and every time it does start taking shape, Warner Bros. seems to change tact.

The Suicide Squad director has already teased plans to tell the "Biggest Story Ever Told," so it feels like we've reached a real turning point (and boy, it sure is long overdue).

Understandably, fans are now anxious for any kind of slate announcement. Gunn has said that huge story will be told across movies, TV shows, and animation, so we have to believe the studio has finally allowed them to put together a definitive list of projects that won't remain trapped in development hell or meet the same fate as Batgirl

Taking to his newly launched Mastadon account, Gunn answered a couple of fan questions, including one about a DCU slate reveal. To that, the filmmaker and executive responded, "Give us a chance to catch our breath. We just got here."

He also later seemed to debunk reports that The Batman and Joker franchises won't be under his and Safran's purview, confirming that they're overseeing everything DC-related.

It's an exciting time for the new DCU, though with a few movies from the old regime still on the way - Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom - we wouldn't be shocked if the new slate isn't announced until Comic-Con.

However, with some of those titles bound to be released in 2024, news may start heading our way sooner than that. There's already chatter about a Man of Steel sequel, so don't be surprised if it's among the first projects announced by Gunn and Safran. For now, though, we'll have to wait and see.
