Walter Hamada To Remain On As DC Films President At Warner Bros. Until At Least 2023

Well, we probably shouldn't expect to see Ray Fisher return as Cyborg anytime soon! It's just been announced that Warner Bros. has reupped DC Films President Walter Hamada's contract through to 2023...

Warner Bros. has announced that Walter Hamada has signed a new contract, and will remain on as President of DC Films until at least 2023. Hamada will will continue to oversee the DC movie slate, along with features produced for HBO Max.

The studio has several DC Comics adaptations in various stages of development, including The Suicide Squad, The Batman, Aquaman 2, The Flash, Black Adam, Shazam! Fury of the Gods, and Wonder Woman 3. It's also been confirmed that Batgirl and Static Shock movies are in the works.

“Walter is not only passionate about story and the DC canon, he’s also a thoughtful and incredibly talented executive who is fully committed to investing the time and care necessary for moviemaking on this scale,” said Toby Emmerich, Chairman of Warner Bros. Pictures Group in a statement. “With Walter overseeing our DC movies for theatrical exhibition and on HBO Max, we are excited for him and his team to bring more of these stories to life, working with new and established talent to broaden the reach and diversity of the DC cinematic universe.”

“Walter is an incredibly talented, well-respected executive, known by his colleagues and our filmmakers as a great collaborator,” added Ann Sarnoff, Chair and CEO, WarnerMedia Studios and Networks Group. “I’m excited about where he’s taking DC Films and look forward to working with him and the rest of the team to build out the DC Multiverse.”

This news comes just days after Justice League actor Ray Fisher stated publicly that he would not "participate in any project associated" with the DC Films chief, calling him "the most dangerous kind of enabler." So, we probably shouldn't expect to see the actor return as Cyborg following his appearance in Zack Snyder's Justice League this March.

At least he’s attempting to do something with the franchise/properties. Jury is still out on how successful he is.

@Gmoney84 - Seeing as how good the franchise has been thus far, not looking for much.

@Gmoney84 - Well Aquaman is still the highest grossing DC films as hard of would've too believe 5 years and Joker massively exceeded expectations and Shazam was critically acclaimed so I'd say their mostly sucessful

@Godzilla2000Zer - I agree. Good so far. Birds of Prey and WW84 were weak IMO. Not terrible but could’ve been better.

@Gmoney84 - Definitely hopefully it will be a minor speed bump but knowing WB and DC I wouldn't be surprised if this a foreshadowing of what's to come but I'll remain optimistic until Suicide Squad comes out.

@Godzilla2000Zer - Not sure we can give Hamada credit for Aquaman since it started filming in 2017 and Hamada didn't take over until January 2018. Even Shazam really isn't his as that began filming in January 2018.

He does get full credit for Joker tho and unfortunately BOP, and WW84. But the films I truly see as "his" are The Batman, The Suicide Squad, and Flashpoint so the book is still out on him imo.

@LongMayHeReign - Very True. His overall do appeal to me though now it's all about execution which isn't gret right now but I'll wait till SQ before I reexamine my feelings

@Godzilla2000Zer - to me he got this new deal specifically to allow him to see out those 3 films and if they succeed he'll get a much longer deal.

Is that good? I dunno. Sometimes I think that absolutely everybody involved with the shared DCU is incompetent.
