After a controversial 2022, Warner Bros. is looking to course correct with a big 2023 and they have a quartet of DC films leading the way. Plus, Dune: Part Two and Creed III should be huge crowd-pleasers!

With 2022 on its way out, we're going to start looking ahead to next year with our epic 2023 movie preview, where we'll spotlight nearly every major upcoming release studio-by-studio.

Warner Bros. basically limped to the end of 2022, so they're going to need a huge bounce back in 2023 and they have an interesting quartet of DC projects that have the potential to be very lucrative at the box office, despite the fact that the two biggest titles will likely be retconned for James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC Universe.

The Flash is undoubtedly the buzziest of the four, but don't sleep on Shazam! Fury of the Gods and Blue Beetle, which should be just as entertaining. Then, there's Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom arriving on Christmas, which should officially put a pin in Zack Snyder's version of these characters.

WB is also expecting big things from Creed IIIBarbie, and The Nun 2, but don't forget this fall's big show-shopper, the long-awaited Dune: Part Two

Check out our Warner Bros. Pictures/DC Films 2023 movie preview by clicking the "Next" button below!

House Party

WB is kicking their year off with House Party, a reboot of the 1990 comedy of the same name, and this time, they're upping the ante by taking the party to LeBron's house, which should be plenty entertaining.

Cast: Jacob Latimore, Tosin Cole, DC Young Fly, Karen Obilom, Melvin Gregg, Rotimi, Allen Maldonado, Shakira Ja'nai Paye, Andrew Santino, Tamera Kissen, Michael C. Bradford, Bill Bellamy, Scott Mescudi, LeBron James, Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Lena Waithe, Anthony Davis, and Kid N' Play

Release Date: January 13

Magic Mike's Last Dance

Steven Soderbergh returns to wrap up his Magic Mike trilogy with a Last Dance story that focuses only on Mike, who now finds himself in a relationship with the one and only Salma Hayek!

Cast: Channing Tatum, Salma Hayek Pinault, Ayub Khan Din, Jemelia George, Juliette Motamed, Vicki Pepperdine, Gavin Spokes, Caitlin Gerard, and Christopher Bencomo

Release Date: February 10

Creed III

Creed III already has one of the most badass trailers of the year and promises to be one of the best films of 2023, as Adonis finds himself in an unexpected situation when a figure from his past returns and challenges him to the showdown to end all showdowns. Don't miss this one!

Cast: Michael B. Jordan, Tessa Thompson, Jonathan Majors, Wood Harris, Florian Munteanu, Phylicia Rashad, Tony Bellew, Selenis Leyva, Thaddeus J. Mixson, Mila Davis-Kent, and Canelo Álvarez

Release Date: March 3

Shazam! Fury of the Gods

While the future of DC remains in flux, Shazam! Fury of the Gods will lighten the mood a bit and with Peter Safran producing, it's likely this is one hero that might have a bright future in the new DC Universe, but first, he's going to have to take down the Daughters of Atlas!

Cast: Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Rachel Zegler, Adam Brody, Ross Butler, Meagan Good, Lucy Liu, Djimon Hounsou, Helen Mirren, Ian Chen, Grace Fulton, Jovan Armand, D. J. Cotrona, Faithe Herman, Marta Milans, Cooper Andrews, Rizwan Manji, Lotta Losten, and Gal Gadot

Release Date: March 17

Evil Dead Rise

Evil Dead Rise is the fifth installment in the franchise and the film's synopsis reads, "a road-weary Beth pays an overdue visit to her older sister Ellie, who is raising three kids on her own in a cramped L.A. apartment. The sisters' reunion is cut short by the discovery of a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie's building, giving rise to flesh-possessing demons, and thrusting Beth into a primal battle for survival as she is faced with the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable."

Cast: Alyssa Sutherland, Lily Sullivan, Ali Asghar Shah, Gabrielle Echols, Morgan Davies, Nell Fisher, Mia Challis, Tai Wano, Jayden Daniels, and Billy Reynolds-McCarthy

Release Date: April 21

The Flash

The Flash might be a cursed film, but that doesn't mean it also won't be a good one. It's been reportedly testing well for months, which is not a surprise considering Andy Muschietti is in the director's chair, and will see the Scarlet Speedster partner with a number of other DC heroes, so expect this one to be a big draw next Summer, even if Miller will likely be dropped from the role long before it hits theaters.

Cast: Ezra Miller, Ron Livingston, Michael Keaton, Kiersey Clemons, Michael Shannon, Antje Traue, Sasha Calle, Ben Affleck, Maribel Verdú, Temuera Morrison, Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Rudy Mancuso, Luke Brandon Field, Henry Cavill, and Jason Momoa

Release Date: June 16

Barbie

Greta Gerwig directing a Barbie movie with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken, respectively, is talent we can get behind. Whether it lives up to the hype remains to be seen, but we can guarantee it's going to garner a lot of eyeballs leading up to its July debut.

Cast: Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, Ariana Greenblatt, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, Rhea Perlman, Will Ferrell, Ncuti Gatwa, Emerald Fennell, Hari Nef, Sharon Rooney, Scott Evans, Ana Cruz Kayne, Connor Swindells, Ritu Arya, Jamie Demetriou, and Marisa Abela

Release Date: July 21

Meg 2: The Trench

The Meg is back and this time, it's personal! Actually, we don't know what they have planned for this one, but Jason Statham is back to take on the monster megalodon, so that should be more than enough to get asses in seats.

Cast: Jason Statham, Sienna Guillory, Cliff Curtis, Shuya Sophia Cai, Page Kennedy, Skyler Samuels, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, and Wu Jing

Release Date: August 4

Blue Beetle

Another Peter Safran production, Blue Beetle could be another promising entry in the DC Universe next year and has a lot of runway to succeed at the box office with its late Summer launch.

Cast: Xolo Maridueña, Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo, George Lopez, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carrillo, Damián Alcázar, Raoul Trujillo, Susan Sarandon, and Harvey Guillén

Release Date: August 18

The Nun 2

Sister Irene returns to face Valak in this eagerly awaited sequel to the 2018 horror blockbuster, which grossed over $365 million at the global box office on a modest $22 million production budget.

Cast: Taissa Farmiga, Storm Reid, Anna Popplewell, Katelyn Rose Downey, Bonnie Aarons, and Jonas Bloquet

Release Date: September 8

Dune: Part Two

If Dune: Part Two isn't near the top of your must-see list for 2023, then what are you doing, man? The sequel promises to be even more action-packed than its predecessor as Paul Atreides partners with Chani and the Fremen to seek out revenge against those that destroyed fireworks. Expect fireworks when this opens early November!

Cast: Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Zendaya, Charlotte Rampling, Javier Bardem, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, Léa Seydoux, Christopher Walken, and Souheila Yacoub

Release Date: November 3

Wonka

We're getting a double dose of Chalamet next winter as he'll also headline Wonka, which will reveal the never-before-told story of a young Willy Wonka before he opens his famous chocolate factory.

Cast: Timothée Chalamet, Keegan-Michael Key, Rowan Atkinson, Sally Hawkins, Jim Carter, Matt Lucas, Natasha Rothwell, Olivia Colman, Tom Davis, Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Rich Fulcher, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Paterson Joseph, Calah Lane, Colin O'Brien, Rakhee Thakrar, Ellie White, Murray McArthur, and Tracy Ifeachor

Release Date: December 15

The Color Purple

https://i.ibb.co/YhK1fkX/Nun.jpgnun" />

The Color Purple is getting a musical remake, based on its own 2005 stage musical of the same name. Steven Spielberg and Oprah Winfrey are onboard as producers as well, so expect this to be a potential big winner over the holiday season.

Cast: Fantasia, Colman Domingo, Corey Hawkins, Danielle Brooks, H.E.R., Halle Bailey, Ciara, Aunjanue Ellis, Deon Cole, Louis Gossett Jr., Elizabeth Marvel, Jon Batiste, David Alan Grier, Taraji P. Henson, Phylicia Mpasi, Tamela J. Mann, and Stephen Hill

Release Date: December 20

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom

The DC Extended Universe formally comes to a close with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom next Christmas, although we're willing to wager Jason Momoa will continue to have a future in the DC Universe, as Peter Safran also co-produced this feature. However, with all the upcoming changes, it remains to be seen how much of that connective tissue will remain in this film.

Cast: Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Temuera Morrison, Nicole Kidman, Ben Affleck, Randall Park, Vincent Regan, Jani Zhao, Indya Moore, and Pilou Asbæk

Release Date: December 25

Coyote vs. Acme

Coyote vs. Acme isn't dated yet, but is expected to arrive sometime in 2023. The synopsis teases the plot, "After all of the ACME Corporation's malfunctioned products consistently backfired on him, in his dogged pursuit of the Road Runner, Wile E. Coyote hires a down-on-his-luck human attorney to sue the company. When Wile E.'s hired lawyer notices that his intimidating boss at his former law firm is representing ACME, they form a friendship and team up to win the court case against him.

Cast: John Cena, Will Forte, Lana Condor, and Eric Bauza

Release Date: TBD

Salem's Lot

The teaser for Salem's Lot played during CinemaCon last year and was sufficiently scary, so it's a bit puzzling why the studio has left this undated. Regardless, we should still it in 2023 and we're willing to bet it'll arrive before that Halloween window.

Cast: Lewis Pullman, Makenzie Leigh, Bill Camp, Pilou Asbæk, Alfre Woodard, William Sadler, John Benjamin Hickey, Jordan Preston Carter, Spencer Treat Clark, Nicholas Crovetti, and Cade Woodward

Release Date: TBD

Early Look at 2024

  • Toto (February 2)
  • Untitled Godzilla vs. Kong sequel (March 15)
  • Mickey 17 (March 29)
  • The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim (April 12)
  • Furiosa (May 24)
  • Joker: Folie à Deux (October 4)

Well I hate to be petty but......I TOLD YOU SO!

Everything I told you jokers months ago has be proven true through all the recent DCU developments, articles.

(REPOST)
"@Origame - told ya. They will not be using Cavill. It makes zero sense business wise. It's actully pretty damn stupid. Not happening.

They're going to finish out The Batman while while launching a new DCU Batman who won't be allowed to have his own film franchise until after Reeves'.

It's only out sheer desperation Zaslov is allowing Batfleck to appear in Aquaman. Emergency decision after Ezra destroyed anything Flashpoint projects. The whole DCEU is out.

Remember this is the same guy who went on record saying, "the Snyder cut should have never been made."

Here's my comment from the "Zaslov says there will not be 4 Batmans article." It touches on this a bit:

"Batfleck and Keaton are both 100% out. Clearly the biggest waste from a business stand point.

Patterson is 100% guaranteed to stick around for while. To much investment at the current. Didn't break the bank but 750mil most def merits sequels.

lol at you thinking they would throw that away for a failed Batman simply because you like him most.

Terrible, terrible idea.

The irony here is how DC is in the exact spot they were in at the start of the DCEU. Nolan's trilogy was in full swing so making a competing Batman franchise was out of the question. Hence Zaslav's comment about not having 4 competing Batman. Which caused for the DCEU to start development devoid of any Batman setting the franchise back. Some people even say the Nolanverse is what killed DC's chances to compete with Marvel having to wait to long giving Marvel to great of a lead.

DC is in the exact same spot now. There was rumor at the beginning heads at DC argued about launching a competing Batman franchise shortly after Nolan's to join the DCEU for the purpose of competing with Marvel. Nolan hated this idea for obvious reasons. His trilogy was so successful Nolan won out talks. Pushing back the proper start of the DCEU eliminating a Batman proper to compete with Marvel.

DCWB lost their asses because of this. So now I'm wondering EXACTLY what they're going to do this time around. What have they learned exactly. Being in the same spot.

If I had to guess Zaslav is going to allow for 2 Batmans. No way in hell is Reeves' new trilogy getting the axe. So I figure they'll launch another Batman within the new DCU. He won't be allowed to have his own film franchise though. He'll be heavily cameod in DCU films and be front and center of team projects.

Zaslav didn't say there would be zero competing Batmans. He said not 4. Clearly leaving the door open for at least two. They'll finish out PattBat while having a shared universe version not allowed to get his own film until after Reeves' trilogy is complete. Keaton and Affleck are both 100% out."

I wish they would've announced a Kingdom Come movie(s) to wrap up the DCEU actors' roles. At least then Cavill would've gone out in a grand fashion, instead of being given the worst treatment possible by the studio. It's insane to think that the most non-controversial actor of the DCEU, playing the most important character, was treated by far the worst. Both us as fans - who have waited for a long time for the ship to be righted - and for Henry as an actor.

@duncboy - that could’ve been a nice send off and possibility, they did something similar with the new 52 movies; as bad as they were they at least had a decent closing.

I honestly wonder who Saoirse-Monica Jackson is playing in The Flash, I heard a lot of rumors that she's playing Patty Spivot but I really hope she's playing more than just a side character. Personally, I'd want her as Mirror Master. I love Derry Girls with all my heart and Erin Quinn deserves better.

@FilmGuy7878 - that is something I actually wanna see too now. Almost gets me excited for the movie (almost)

How did The Nun get a sequel?

Have to admit that none of these excite me. Coyote vs ACME maybe. Never heard of that, sounds bonkers.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 12/16/2022, 5:59 PM
@TheManWithoutFear - it does. Not what I expected from a Looney Tunes movie.

If it can be anything like the movie with Brendan Fraser or like Chip 'n Dale, it could be great fun.
Arthorious
Arthorious - 12/17/2022, 8:07 AM
@TheManWithoutFear - only 4 have my attention: Shazam, Blue Beetle, Creed III, and Dune Part 2
MyCoolYoung
MyCoolYoung - 12/16/2022, 3:52 PM
There’s a lot of movies I’ll watch but Creed 3 is the only one I’m excited for on this list. Looks like they got back to form on this one.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 12/16/2022, 5:57 PM
@MyCoolYoung - I might give Creed 3 a shot too, but I'm not sure yet.

I thin the only movie out of the whole Rocky franchise I saw was Creed 2, so I got little investment in it.

Maybe I should just watch all movies in a row when Creed 3 rolls around.
MyCoolYoung
MyCoolYoung - 12/16/2022, 6:27 PM
@bkmeijer1 - creed 1 for me is so much better than 2. It's really why I'm such a fan of Ryan Coogler. So no rocky at all? Wow. I'm not the biggest rocky fan like a lot of people here but some of them are dope
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 12/16/2022, 6:57 PM
@MyCoolYoung - I may have seen bits of them when they were on tv, but never in it's entirety.

And it's not the only big 80s franchise. Goes for Alien and a few others too.
MyCoolYoung
MyCoolYoung - 12/16/2022, 10:42 PM
@bkmeijer1 - I've never been a fan of most of those franchises. I've seen them all but I don't have any nostalgia for them. Alien, terminator, Rambo, Indiana Jones, die hard, predator, etc. I wouldn't even finish them at this point.

I tried to watch Indiana Jones for my daughter and I just wasn't into it
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 12/17/2022, 4:31 AM
@MyCoolYoung - I get that. Outside of Indiana Jones, I don't think I'll ever get into them again.

The 80s franchises that I did watch were fun, but only really for once and some maybe specific movies once for a second time.

It's not that they're bad, they just don't have high rewatch value
