DEADPOOL 2 SPOILERS - Director David Leitch Reveals That An Extended Cut Of The Film Is Coming
While the theatrical cut of Deadpool 2 is enjoying great success at the box office, an extended cut of the R-Rated film is currently in the works & is expected to include several new and hilarious scenes.
The sequel to Ryan Reynold’s hit film Deadpool is currently in theaters, and the Fox movie saw a lucrative opening weekend along with a largely positive reception from fans and critics.
However, while the theatrical cut of Deadpool 2 is clearly a hit, the film’s director David Leitch recently revealed to Cinema Blend that he and other members of the film’s crew are currently working on an extended cut of the R-rated movie.
“There's an extended cut. And I think that they may want to spin that out as a special thing, but right now I'm sort of... we're taking our time, and it's going back to the 'director cut,' and then sort of collaborating with Ryan [Reynolds], Rhett [Reese], and Paul [Wernick], and making sure we're all getting all the jokes we want - to have it be fun and our sort of fun collaboration.”
This “director cut” that Leitch is referring to apparently only clocked in at two hours and 12 minutes, so the extended cut, which will most likely drop around the time of the film’s home release, will probably have a similar runtime.
During the interview, Leitch also revealed some of the scenes we can expect to find on the extended cut.
To start, we can expect to see what Leitch calls "the suicide scene," which would have been a montage of the Merc With a Mouth attempting to commit suicide in a variety of ways following the death of Vanessa (Morena Baccarin). Along with this moment, we can also expect “some extra Domino stuff,” which will be a nice treat for fans of Zazie Beetz's character.
Finally, fans will see an extended X-Mansion scene. This scene at the iconic home of the X-Men will apparently feature another interaction between Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand) and Wade Wilson, who is hard at work labeling kitchen items when the X-Man reveals she’s “not buying his go-straight routine.”
So, it sounds like the extended cut for Deadpool won’t really include any new plot points, but will feature plenty of new jokes and perhaps some alternate lines.
