Deadpool Spin Off In The Works

Deadpool Spin Off In The Works

This is no surprise to most of us, but rumor is Fox is vamping up a Deadpool spin off.

No shocking news with this bit of information. We all knew it was coming. We all just sat there and hoped Wolverine would somewhat stay true to its source but unfortunately that was just not the case. So the next question is: What will fox do to Deadpool, if he were to get his own film? Well, those answers are still somewhat unclear. What is clear is that Fox is planning a Deadpool spin off with Ryan Reynolds. At least they are keeping Ryan, he did a great job with what he had to work with in X-Men Origins Wolverine. It wasn't his fault the Writers and Producers muddled everything up. Fox needs to show Deadpool with his mask on. I cannot stress this point enough.

Iron Man which is produced by Marvel had a opening weekend of 98 almost 99 million dollars, Wolverine which is produced by Fox bowed at 87 million. Wolverine was projected to make well over the 100 million mark. Fox is claiming that the Swine Flu and the Internet leak is why the movie under performed. As you can tell from my video review below of X-Men Origins Wolverine that the reason it under performed is because of plot development problems and bad special effects. A part of me wanted this movie to fail so that Fox execs would quit taking such creative liberties and destroying the source material from which it came from. Wolverines success will be measured by how much the movie makes this upcoming weekend when it has to compete with Star Trek, and then Terminator the week after that, my guess is the movies income will fall off sharply. The other part of me wanted it to succeed so that fox wont lock the property up in a vault and throw away the key. But in all seriousness, can we get a good movie from the people at Fox? A movie that is not rushed, one that is well thought out. Fox use to make quality movies but not lately. The answer is hopefully. TDK stayed true enough to the source and look at the numbers that movie put up. Hopefully Deadpool follows the same path and Fox does not horribly alter the source material for The Merck with a Mouth.

I havent' seen the movie yet, just reading some u guys review. Changing somethings are ok, but character relationship amongest others is in violation of our comic characters. Ex. Rogue & Wolverines relation in the X_men movies!!!!!!!!!!

Just give the guy his costume. How hard is that? It may be true that the X-men have the oddest costumes out of all comic book characters. But if Spider-man, Iron Man and Daredevil can pull it off, why not Deadpool? Part of what makes a superhero a superhero is how they look. Damn Bryan Singer for screwing that up. He didn't seem to have a problem giving Superman his blue tights.

Ror & Sir: You know, lately I've been getting the same feeling. (I usually get my news at splashpage.mtv.com first, they seem to get the breaking comic book movie news first, and then come here to "post" or "vent". lol)
The main reason that I keep coming back is the posters on these message boards (for the majority) are far more intelligent, and you don't see "First!" posted seventeen times at the beginning of an article...
(*Notice that the only person to do that for some time is a Grease fan, so I don't even HAVE to plead my case on this.)

Anyway, to comment on the article.
I watched the movie, didn't manage to see the leaked version before going to see it. And I can say I was honestly not that dissapointed! It was a good movie, Hugh Jackman was superb, as well as Schrieber. Ryan Reynolds WILL be the perfect Deadpool, when that movie is finally made. And the rest of the cast was not bad. I liked Taylor as Gambit, he filled the role just fine with me.
As for the inconsistencies and plot holes... Yeah, and? I mean, if you're not used to seeing these kinds of things in film adaptations, you must not do a lot of reading? Look at EVERY piece of literature that is translated to film, and you will see alterations that are made to make the story more visually interpretable. It's an inevitability! A fleeting example would be Blade Runner. One of the best movies of all time! And yet, a far cry from the original source material ("Do Electric Men Dream of Electric Sheep").
Suck it up, enjoy the movie for what it is... a movie! And hope that when the next Wolverine movie is made, they LISTEN to Jackman and make it about his trials and tribulations in Japan!
Nuff' said.

Nah, after the mess of the Wolverine movie, I think from now on I'll pass on all Fox produced superhero flicks.

Quick question, just for the sake of staying "on topic"... What would a Deadpool movie be about, anyway?
I mean, every time I think about the concept, I start to scratch my head going, "No, that's Cable... No, that's X-Men."
Any ideas?

@ adamant..True that! I had to stop even reading the blogs over at AICN for that very reason..nobody wants to converse, they are all more interested in they're own voices(in print!).

I would LOVE a Deadpool spinoff. How would they do it though?

adamant877, You asked the same question i have. It could be about him going into the mercenary business, the way we all know and love. Maybe he could go up against a drug cartel that has bad ass mutant henchman and a mutant main bad guy. At least that could give us a chance to see some lower level villians, like they are supposedly doing in the Green Arrow movie.

I'd love to see Wade go up against Lester on the big screen.

Deadpool VS Bullseye.

"TDK stayed true enough to the source and look at the numbers that movie put up." <-WTF?????

The Dark Knight was very off from the source material. First Lucius Fox was involved in Wayne Enterprises, but not at all in the making of Batman's gadgets. Ra's Al Ghul IS NOT a white guy lol. And he also is virtually immortal lol. And who the hell is Rachel Dawes?!?! They created a whole new childhood friend/love interest out of thin air! Yet, it was a good movie. Which only proves my point that they can take liberties with the source material and still have it be a good story. Y'all whiners make me sick. ITS A MOVIE. NOT A COMIC BOOK!
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 5/5/2009, 12:06 PM
Carl iv been saying that for ages! Everyone envokes TDK as an example of how a comic book adap should be done and it changes just as much shit as they all do! Obviously TDK was a better movie than Wolverine but it had [frick] all do do with sticking to the source and everything to do with having a better director, script and supporting cast.

If all on this board truly don't want Fox to make these horrible movies anymore - don't go see them, and get all your friends to boycott them.

All we need to get a good movie on these properties is for Fox to perpetuate a colosal bomb. They will then not make a sequel and in a few years the rights will revert back to Marvel.

Fox is talking about making a fantastic four or daredevil movie again because they have to soon or they lose the rights.

So lets all agree to NOT see the next comic movie Fox makes - no matter what it is - they will stop making crap and Marvel - who actually cares about making a good film can make them.

Imagine in 10 years if we have a marvel universe where iron man, cap, thor, hulk, deredevil, fantastic four and x-man can cross-polinate each others movies.

All we have to do is make sure all of us who care about these movies don't see them (hell just waiting until the second or third week to see them would work - do you think they'd be talking sequel if Wolverine took in $69M.)

You can't complain about Fox still making these movies and how horiible they continue to be if you and your friends run out to see them the first weekend. You are enabling this whole thing. Stop it.

I'm not surprised with this news, and honestly i wouldn't be surprised if it did better than wolverine i Deadpools easy, he's popular because he's a pop character who knows he's a comic book character, so honeslty any story line will do as long as he keeps the humor and kills a lot of folks, people will watch.

they tried to make wolverine like spiderman 3. Too many plot turns, too many characters, and went for the MTV crowd.

Deadpool to me in the Wolverine film was cool until they turned him to XI....I didnt really get it but I dont know that much about Deadpool. I know his face his is all screwed up and he's phyiscally enhanced and mentally distrubed. Deadpool's first 5min on film were great and I think in the spin-off with the red and black outfit on it could work. Explain what happen to him from the Wolvie film for those of us who's not up to snuff with his origins. Push the pg13 rating with some hardcore voilence and blood... he is a merc and get a good director and supporting cast. Atleast stay true to the comic 60-40 and it should be straight.

I can't wait for this spin off, but I'm interested to see if they're going to stay true to the Deadpool look because Ryan Reynold's face helps sell his films and i think covering it up may hold the film back a bit, not so much in terms of it as a film..but you know what I mean..still pumped for it though! Ryan Reynolds was a great Wade Wilson in his 4 minutes of the film.

Yea keep Reynolds put him in his red and black tights push the pg13 rating with some hardcore violence and blood. He's a crazied merc for hire so he's got to kill some people. Get a good director, supporting cast and stay atleast 60-40 true to the comic and it should out do Wolverine at the box office.

Ror-01- here's why its changing up in meow, first when movies like the original Capt. America and the old Hulk TV shows/movies came out there was an actual effort to honor the source materials. Future generations of fans were weaned from that stuff. 2 We are first and foremost Comic Book Fans , not Fans of the movie adaptions. Or at least until the movies surpassed the comics.3 Like the transition from Daredevil to Spiderman 1 we expected the movies to get ever closer to the source as they did. 4 now we expect every movie to get further from the source, and that is very disappointing. WE are not here to see if we can tolerate the bastardization of our beloved heroes and villans. We are here to see our imaginations and them come to life. Jut imagine if hollywood took such liberties with Norse,Greek,Chinese Mythology. Look at the movie Hero with Jet Li , it was a fantastic movie with epic fights and unbelievable powers incredible costumes. It stayed true to the legends and myths. I am a BatMan fan first and foremost .... but the TDK was not what i wanted and i believe that The Incredible Hulk movie was a far better "Adaption" of the source material, liberties and all. TDK was great but Spiderman and Hulk and Iron Man and The Lord of The Rings and even Hell Boy gave me as a Comic Book Fan what i wanted most.

@ Keveen that is BS. The leak had a ton to do with it under performing. My whole group of friends didn't see it in theaters b/c we saw the leak, and I am sure around the country there are tons of people that didn't see it yet b/c of the leak. I would say it cost the film at least 10 million dollars.

Now I do agree with you that the script was weak. I feel that will cause week 2 sales to drop off, but that had no effect on the 1st week of sales.

I am very excited for a Deadpool movie. Hopefully they will give it reasonable expectactions with a lower budget then Wolverine so it can have a chance to succeed. I would like to see DP movie Rated R. Make this one for the fans, and expect to get 100-120 million.

An SHIBAZZ @ That's all we want as comic book fans, good comic book movies!!! Basically if it wasn't for us, past and present, there would be no WOLVERINE for a movie! Why change what ain't broke!!! Everyone expects some little an i say little changes but half a movies worth!!! An also Wolverines origin isn't even that old compared to DC origins that started in the late thirties!! Bastardization, i like that heh heh, maybe thats what they should've called it! ; )

I know what your saying Shibazz and i wish the movies stuck closer to the source aswell, but it wont dampen my enjoyment of them if they dont..as long as the essence is there..its all about the essence baby! Plus all those movies you mentioned also changed shit loads! Hell if i was to mention every way LOTR deviated from the book we would be here all night! Im a comic fan, and a movie fan..they are 2 different things, and just because a comicbook movie is based on a comic..its a movie..and not a comic..thats just how i look at it.
BLACKWINGS17
BLACKWINGS17 - 5/5/2009, 1:29 PM
1. We paid to see the movie anyway because we knew it was our only chance to see the X-Men on the big screen - good or bad, we supported it because of our lack of options of X-related movies. What other X-Men movie was there in theaters? If you saw another one I would love to know.

2. It was the fans who made Marvel into a multi-billion dollar industry. It was the fans who made these characters last 40+ years on the market. It was the fans who made these characters popular enough to be made into movies to begin with, so the rest of you could see it in the theater and eat it up.

3. We b---- about the changes Fox made because once again, it is our only chance to see these characters in a live action movie - and they screwed it up. Fox made changes to charactes they do not own or create. They made changes to characters that have decades of history with comic fans - and making these changes is like saying that their character and origin wasn't good enough as is.

4. Yes, Marvel owning 100% of the rights would make all the difference - despite what some would argue. Marvel would want to give back to the fans for the decades of loyalty that fans have given them. Go read interviews of comic artists and writers who have had their ideas changed or retconned, and you'll understand.

5. The changes done to Deadpool were not minor changes - so they cannot be compared to other "adeptations" done by other movies. Deadpool is a ninja mercenary with an unmatched healing factor who uses guns and swords. He is not a Mortal Kombat Baraka with the powers of Mimic (if you don't know who that is, then read more comics).

Deadpool is deformed, with tumors and scars all over his body because of the Weapon-X experiments - which is why he wears the costume. Having black rings around his eyes before he shoots laser beams out of his eyes is not a nod to fans - its a slap in the face. These movies are about people with special powers - and believe it or not, those powers make the character. Change the power, and you change the character that people relate them to and have grown to love.

"At least Deadpool had swords" is like having Wolverine's claws come out of his feet and saying "At least Wolverine had claws." Would you be ticked off if they made Batman into "Catman"?

6. Saying that this was a Wolverine movie and not a Deadpool movie does not give them free reign to do whatever the hell they want with the rest of the characters. We all know that Marvel only gives the X-Men the spotlight if Wolverine is inolved in some manner - so doing a Wolverine movie is the only way they can fit other X-Men characters into the fold. Also, have you forgotten that this movie was suppose to set up a possible "Deadpool" and "Gambit" spinoff? In that case, yes, it was also the origin of the other characters.

Sorry, I had to vent.
