From MTV Splashpage: Deadpool writers converse with Ryan Reynolds regularly

“We’re outlining it pretty seriously right now,” explained Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick writers of “Zombieland,” “We’re in the early stages.”

“We just absolutely adore the character and the comic,” explained Wernick. “And tonally, it’s right up our alley. He’s the unstable, smart-ass, self deprecating guy — and they say write what you know"

Writers express their excitement on the Deadpool project and have been developing with Deadpool star himself - Ryan Reynolds. They say that its a collaborative process, and they say Reynolds is smart and passionate about the character.

“What’s great about Ryan is that he’s been the keeper of the Deadpool flame for many years, he’s loved the character since forever; he lives it and breathes it,” Reese said of some of the specific ideas Reynolds has brought up to them. “We’re a little newer to Deadpool, although we’ve done a bit of catching up. One of the nice things about working with Ryan is that he tonally gets it — if we ever do something that is off the Deadpool path, or if it doesn’t feel like Deadpool, he catches it.”

head on to MTV Splashpage to read the whole article.

Ryan Reynolds was really born to play this role. If only Fox did not Fox it up last time. This would have gone before Green Lantern and we might have some other actor better suited for GL.

Fox you Fox!

I think Paul Rubens would play a better Deadpool. Reynolds I don't think can pull it off.

I'm ecstatic to see the ball moving on this movie. If done right, Deadpool and his offbeat, fresh, 4th wall breaking, action packed, hilarious adventures could become big hits with the general audience.

Ryan Reynolds, perfect.
Zombieland writers, great choices.

All we need is David Fincher at the helm, and not even the fact that Fox is involved could bring me down :)

Question: could this movie be so bad ass that Fox comes out of its coma and starts listening to the people that actually know the characters and are true fans themselves?

From what we’re hearing so far I’d say Fox may not be on life support just yet...

@thwhtGuardian
the main reason we got the deadpool that we did in origins is that reynolds was only able to shoot a couple of scenes so they had to figure out a way to have some one else play hi part without it being to noticible donner also said that this 'pool will be nothing like deadpool/barakapool/weapon XI so I am not worrying and neither should you

I will always and forever think it was a mistake in his career, even if we get a freakin' AMAZING Green Lantern on par with Star Wars, that Ryan Reynolds took that part.

I think, as he gets older, it will be harder for a mainstream audience to accept him as this offbeat character. And it's going to be what 2-3 years before Deadpool comes out - he'll be 37, 38... lame fail. And if Green Lantern is great we will forever have that impression of him etched in our brains, and a sequel will proceed right away guaranteed.

He'll be like, "I'm still doin' it everyone, I'm still doin' it", and he'll be like 50 lol...

It's stupid as hell, though I suppose hindsight's 20/20 we could have had a Green Lantern on par with Avatar. And now the guys who wrote ZombieLand are writing it! sweet sweet sweet. What a loss.

Save the space epics for another few years, and do them all Avatar style.

If the script is written by the Zombieland guys, and everything falls into place, it has the potential to match or outdo Heath's Joker imo. Probably not financially, but cult status wise and artistically. Will no doubt cost way way less too.

RYAN RETNOLDS + DEADPOOL = EPIC

ohh and SUPERCRAPTUAL ACKLES would be the
WORST CAPTAIN AMERICA EVER!

MovieTheaterLad- BRADLEY COOPER! from the HANGOVER?
he would be the WORST Deadpool!
COPPER should stick to COMEDY
NOT ACTION or SUPERHEROES,
That A-TEAM movie he's in is going
to be mediocre at BEST.

@MovieTheaterLad

hah I barely glanced at your cartoon there, that is great man.

I wanted Bradley Cooper too. Noone could see it, or not many at least, but he'd have been exceptiional.

I really wish they'd do Gambit also; he is my favorite Xman. Kitch was fine, just needs to work on the accent. I don't know what's wrong with Fox... I think those guys have genetically degenerated. Spend all that money on rebooting Spidey, when they have all this other great stuff choose from.

By the way, one of the few very cool things that Fox has established with the Xmen imo, is the logo. Even in Borigins where it fills with adamantium. In Deadpool it should fill with blood.

With the guys from ZombieLand writing it, hopefully Deadpool will get a hard R. The only thing that held back ZombieLand from being an insane cult classic imo, was the little girl (what's her face, can't remember now). But becasue of her we got this lame filler with her not even firing the gun (watch closely), and no boobage... Deadpool needs a hard R, and no little kiddies in it.

I was on the bandwagon for Tarantino, but he writes all his own screenplays.

Wait, what about "Avatar". A seven-week-in-a-row-at-#1 success from Fox. I'd say they came to life after that.

I think you're referring to Abigail Breslin.
48and2
48and2 - 2/8/2010, 10:35 PM
@RoadDogXXIV yeah that's her name... why the hell was she in Zombieland? I mean she will probably be a cool chick in about 5 years, but how can you have a zombie movie of that calibre with no boobage. Probably was some very cool, funny, and adult material left out, because she wanted to be in it. Sorry if I spoiled it for anyone, not my intention... you will enjoy the movie anyway, trust me.

Why does everybody hate RR For dead Pool and Green Lantern? The comic even stated that Dead Pool Was Ryan Reynolds and did anybody see Smoking Aces? He totaly ruled that role. He had a few quips here and there but all of the actors did. He made that role.

Zombieland is awesome, didn't know Deadpool had the same writers. Green Lantern/Deadpool are going to define Ryan Reynolds career and it's good that he knows that.

@48and2.. Can see what you're saying about Reynolds' Green Lantern but remember unlike Superman/Batman, there are other Lantern's who take over the role. I don't expect a trio of films based on the exploits of Hal Jordan.
