Over the weekend, reports came in that Melissa McCarthy was in early talks to play the villainous Ursula in Disney and director Rob Marshall's live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, and now it's been confirmed that Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina are also in negotiations for a pair of supporting roles.
Tremblay (Room, The Predator) would play Ariel's playful pal Flounder, while Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians, Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance) is up for the role of Scuttle the seagull.
Spider-Man: Far From Home actress Zendaya recently reignited speculation that she was up for the lead role of Ariel when she showed up to a red carpet event sporting red hair, but that's still just a rumor for now. We do know that Lin-Manuel Miranda, who worked with Marshall on Mary Poppins Returns, will also work on original music for Mermaid along with composer Alan Menken.
