Over the weekend, reports came in that Melissa McCarthy was in early talks to play the villainous Ursula in Disney and director Rob Marshall's live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, and now it's been confirmed that Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina are also in negotiations for a pair of supporting roles.

Tremblay (Room, The Predator) would play Ariel's playful pal Flounder, while Awkwafina (Crazy Rich Asians, Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance) is up for the role of Scuttle the seagull.

Spider-Man: Far From Home actress Zendaya recently reignited speculation that she was up for the lead role of Ariel when she showed up to a red carpet event sporting red hair, but that's still just a rumor for now. We do know that Lin-Manuel Miranda, who worked with Marshall on Mary Poppins Returns, will also work on original music for Mermaid along with composer Alan Menken.

What do you guys make of this news? Are you looking forward to this remake? Sound off down below.

Cool with this casting but I'm not digging McCarthy... she's a great actress (she killed it in Can You Ever Forgive Me?) and all but she just doesn't seem right for the part.

@MasterMix - Because she’s popular, talented and will likely be an Oscar-nominated actress this time next year.
