“Maleficent” is the untold story of Disney’s most iconic villain from the 1959 classic “Sleeping Beauty.” A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal—an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom—and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.

Maleficent is being directed by Robert Stromberg, based on a screenplay by Paul Dini and Linda Woolverton. The cast includes: Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley, Juno Temple, Sam Riley, Miranda Richardson and Imelda Staunton. Will land in theaters May 30, 2014.

Interesting concepts, although change for the sake of change does more harm than good. The end result they went with was of course, much more acceptable.

Haven't seen the movie yet, but gripping those handle-bars of hers from behind has entered my mind, once or twice...really though, the movie version actually turns out looking the best imo...cool stuff regardless!

Im glad they stuck with her original look, would of been cool if she had the green skin though...her voice work is probably the best thing! She sounds exactly like Maleficent from the animated film! Taking my niece to watch it Friday! Can't wait :D

Why concept arts are always better than the final results?

If none of you guys know how the creative process works, artists are suppose to create the most random and outrageous designs. sometimes they are successful, sometimes not. there are probably dozens of other designs and sketches that havent been posted.
they know they may not look to great or whatever but its up to the people in charge to decide that.

that being said, im so glad they stuck with the classic look.

As an artist, you create something as far away from the source as you can when working with concept art. You want to open your mind to possibilities and not be bound by the source material. If he would have gone with the classic disney look without first going through these, the end product would have been different. You draw to see what works and doesn't work, and if you are able to find that one good thing about your horrible idea, then you can use that to improve the final product.

rant raant rant
