LIGHTYEAR Trailer Takes Buzz To Infinity And Beyond; Reveals New Plot Details (And A Familiar Foe!)

Disney and Pixar have released a new trailer for Lightyear that reveals more about the premise of this highly anticipated animated movie. Stranded on an alien planet with his fellow explorers, it seems Buzz just wants to get home, but that's going to be easier said than done...especially after a clash with a giant robot that looks an awful lot like the basis for the villainous Zurg!

Director Angus MacLane previously suggested that Lightyear is the movie Toy Story character Andy saw that made him want a "Buzz Lightyear" toy, which is definitely an intriguing concept.

With this new sneak peek comes a poster and details on the voice cast. Joining Chris Evans as Buzz are Keke Palmer, Dale Soules, and Taika Waititi as a group of ambitious recruits. Peter Sohn voices Buzz’s robot companion, Sox, and the cast also includes the voices of Uzo Aduba, James Brolin, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Efren Ramirez, and Isiah Whitlock Jr.

"The cast for ‘Lightyear’ is truly a dream team," MacLane said in a statement earlier today following the release of this new trailer. "Each of the performers immediately inhabited their character, which gave us the opportunity to play a bit during recording sessions. This resulted in a level of specificity that elevated the material and brought additional depth to the characters’ relationships. It has been a privilege to work with such a talented and generous cast."

The announcements keep coming, though, as we've also learned that Spider-Man: No Way Home and The Batman composer Michael Giacchino will be lending his talents to Lightyear. His previous Pixar credits include Up, The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Cars 2, Inside Out, and Coco among others.

Lightyear is set to be released in theaters on June 17.

you know, I'd absolutely play the sh*t out of a game based on this concept, a Mass Effect by way of Ratchet and Clank kind of thing.

the movie looks great btw, Pixar trying a hand at a blockbuster is like them on cocaine in terms of visuals.

Hope this brings back the magic Pixar used to have back in the day. Their recent movies are not as memorable

Can't wait to see this! But, I've heard that - apparently - there is a controversial element in this movie regarding Buzz? Don't know it that's true ofc, but does anyone know maybe what that's about?

@Spawnnn - post Disney gave us Ratatouille, Wall-e, Up, Toy Story 3
Urubrodi

@Spawnnn - Most of their movies came after Disney bought them (back in 2006).

@Urubrodi - And Toy Story in 1995 was a Disney project so none of this really makes sense.

* Reading up on it, turns out one of Pixar's first animated works was The Rescuers Down Under (1990), which was still Disney but dang did not expect that.

@MrKeyzerSoze - Ratatouille and Wall-e have nothing to do with Disney. It takes years from pre-production to a finished movie - just because Disney bought them down the line, doesn't mean it was their work. Up was ok (second half sucked) and TS3 great - probably the last one I really cared about.

Chris evens is fine in more ways than one but it would have been great to have Tim Allen do the voice honestly.

@mrbaconsock - I would prefer Allen but it makes sense why they got someone new to do the voice since in real life movie actors don’t voice toys based on characters they play.

@TheSuperMex - Yeah, I totally get the reasoning, and it makes sense, and it's actually kinda clever.. but this trailer would have definitely hit different with Allen's voice

I bet these will lead to Woody getting a spin-off. Not sure who would be good for the voice for him.
