Disney has released a new footage-heavy featurette and seven stunning new character portraits for Jon Favreau's The Lion King, featuring the star-studded voice cast meeting their majestic counterparts.

With the wait nearly over, Walt Disney Studios has released an awesome new behind-the-scenes featurette for Jon Favreau's highly-anticipated The Lion King, offering tons of never-before-seen footage from the upcoming live-action/CGI-hybrid blockbuster.

Plus, the studio has also shared seven stunning character portraits spotlighting the main cast of Donald Glover, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, John Oliver, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Alfre Woodard, Eric André, Florence Kasumba, Keegan-Michael Key, Shahadi Wright Joseph, and JD McCrary as they meet their majestic big-screen counterparts.

Golden Globe- and 2x Primetime Emmy-winning actor and Grammy Award-winning artist Donald Glover (Atlanta; Spider-Man: Homecoming) voices Simba, the hero of this epic story. 
 

Billboard- and Grammy-winning singer/songwriter and 3x Golden Globe-nominated actress Beyoncé Knowles-Carter (Dreamgirls) voices Nala. 
 

John Oliver (Last Week Tonight with John Oliver) voices Zazu, Seth Rogen (Long Shot) voices Pumbaa, and Billy Eichner (Parks and Recreation) voices Timon.
 

Academy Award-nominated actress Alfre Woodard (Captain America: Civil War; Luke Cage) voices Simba's mother Sarabi. 
 

Academy Award-nominated actor Chiwetel Ejiofor (Doctor Strange) voices the notorious Scar, who has his sights set on the throne.
 

The hyenas Azizi, Shenzi, and Kamari are voiced by Eric André (Don't Trust the B**** in Apartment 23), Florence Kasumba (Black Panther), and Keegan-Michael Key (Toy Story 4).
 

Newcomers JD McCrary and Shahadi Wright Joseph voice Young Simba and Young Nala, respectively. 

Director Jon Favreau’s all-new “The Lion King” journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his. The all-star cast includes Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa and Billy Eichner as Timon. Utilizing pioneering filmmaking techniques to bring treasured characters to life in a whole new way, Disney’s “The Lion King” roars into theaters on July 19, 2019.

The hyenas used to terrify me as a kid. Probably won't now with Keegan-Michael Key and Eric Andre as two of them.

That Featurette eased my concerns with the personality and animations of the animals. And the visuals are looking good that it pays homage while distinguishing itself.
